Its just a money thing. They think they can bring in alot more money if they ban them. Most places that make radar detectors illegal say that it is illegal because you are sending an unauthorized radio wave out. My thinking is that unless the cops using them are liscenced to broadcast radiowaves are they not breaking the same law? Just a thought.

A lot of them don't even work, so this doesn't concern me. Most of the radar guns LEO's use can pick you up to a mile away and they only pick up signals when the radar is actually being in use. Usually by the time the unit picks up the signal and goes off, you've already been clocked. Not a good investment unless you actually buy such a unit as the Valentine One and some equivalent to them. Most people don't invest that much into one. I've owned a radar detector and personally I think they don't work good enough. Really its not needed. A LEO see's that in your car after they pull you over for speeding it gives them a good reason to write you a ticket instead of maybe just maybe once in your life time give you a warning. They know you have a radar detector so you can speed around and supposely detector them so you can slow down. This is my own opinion.

 

this should concern everyone. it's not matter if you use a radar dector or if they are "worth it". they are trying to make it illegal to do nothing more than recieve a radio signal, and THAT is wrong.

Honorable Senator,

I have read that you are attempting to pass legislation against radar detectors in passenger vehicles. I must say that I disapprove. If you're going to pass traffic laws, try getting the flow of traffic increased, not slowed down.

I realize that your plan is to try and make driving safer (which it won't). With or without radar detectors, the speed of traffic is dictated by the amount of cars on the road and the comfort level of the driver's behind the wheel, not by road signs or law enforcement. For an example, take a stroll down any of Virginia's 55mph interstates. Nobody drives 55mph, and they also have a law against radar detectors to try to curb speeding.

Safer of driving would be better increased by stricter licensing programs, but nobody wants to hear that, either from lack of willpower to try something new, or because it won't make as much money as writing tickets for speeding. I urge you to be different, and to try sponsoring alternative solutions to traffic safety and flow, instead of becoming what every citizen expects from a politician, another apparent tax collector.

they ARE the law... so what are they actually breaking? they can speed and do whatever the hell they want and not get caught. but i do see it as a money thing also... radar detectors reduced some people getting tickets and if they banned them, more income from careless drivers
