Production engine comparison, get your ass BACK in here!
toyota's BEAMS 1NZ-FE around 1.5 liters. 109whp at 6100rpm. let the flaming begin. Also the RENESIS in the Mazda RX8, not the greatest in that car, but still a great engine. The vvt-i 1jzgtte (i think it's still in production), and the BEAMS 3SGE (also i think still in production) i don't know a lot of the specs of the top of my head, but the renesis did win engine of the year when it was debued, and the 3sge is still an n/a beast.

I'd say the 5.4 s/c motor is a good foundation to build on. Think you will see it alot in the 06 cobras once they start being around and modded.
ls7 is a strong assed motor to.
Hell any 350 is pretty sturdy.
I hate chevy's btw so it took a bit to admit that.

These engines built by NISSAN SR,RB,VQ,VG, series motors have earned many awards.
Also B16,B18,K series and F20c for the S2000 are good engines built by Honda
I also still love the 5.0 mustang engines
as well as the new C6 engines for the vette

the 302 had/has an insane aftermarket, and is still made as a crate motor.
I'll stick with the Cobra 4.6 and who knows what the 5.4 will bring. I know they've put 1000hp to a stock 4.6 block without issue.
LS7

I'm more of a GM guy when it comes to my V8 of choice. I'd take an SBC over any of the ford small blocks, although the 351W is pretty cool. Continuing on in time, I'd take an LT1 over a fox-body-vintage 5.0 and I don't think there's even a comparison to be made with the early mod motors. I'd take an LS1 over a twin cam NA mod motor. When you get to the blown 4.6... well, that's a different story. I can't wait to see what the 5.4 will do.
Back to the topic, I can't really think of anything in the six cylinder segment. Where did the ass-kicking inline sixes go? It seems like all the Japanese manufacturers are switching to weaksauce NA V6s.

The modular 4.6 is still a fav of mine, since it can put out ridiculous amounts of power and still be reliable.
Not sure why no one has talked about the new pentroof HEMI's, arn't some of those putting upwards of 450hp from factory?
