KBB is based on trade in values gievn by dealerships that sell a particular car new as they should know the values the best. Well VW in order to combat the depreciation so they will not lose money on their lease turns ins, are giving trade in values of more than the car is worth in order to sway the market up ward. In doing so they bury the backend on the new cars they sell. Hence higher KBB values than the market really is for the car.

Go to the black book or Manhiem auctions and see what they are going for there. Thats the true market value. Hopefully you will find some idiot to buy it from you based on KBB and you can get out of the car.
OI! You guys don't seem to get the big picture....

Once again, Below KBB trade-in has ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to do with that dent! It goes way beyond your car, and has to do with the way VW handles thier trade-ins.

But feel free to spend money on fixing the dent, and getting a second apprasial. The only way you may possibly get more, is if you go to a dealer, and buy a new car at the same time.

Take the advice of a professional who has a budget of millions of dollars to purchase cars for a large dealer.

Even if you get a dealer to SHOW you more for it you are not really getting more.
There is big difference (most of the time) in what you think you got and what the actual cash value is on your car.
If there is room in the car you are buying then they can show you more money for yours.

I love when people go around quoting KBB.
Last I checked they werent in the buisness of buying or selling cars.
You can email them and see if they will give you the amount it says your cars worth.

Not sure what you mean by that, but your snide remarks have no merit if you are ignorant enough to think that they really knocked off $2k for that dent. If anyone would look at this with some common sense, they would understand that the dent was an excuse, not a reason. If he can go get the dent popped out easy, why in the hell wouldn't carmax not only be able to, but understand that when they are looking at it? Fix the dent, take it back, they'll offer you the same thing. They are in the business to make money, period.

I'll never understand why the car business is the only business in the eyes of consumers that shouldn't make money. Fix the dent, change the fluids, detail the car, advertise the car, take the phone calls, show the car, eventually find a buyer yourself or accept the fact the carmax is going to make a profit for making it easy for you..............

Alright MrNiceGuy, don't get your panties in a bunch.I also went through the same thing as you. Carmax told me every panel on the car had to be repainted due a VERY light scratch between the driver's side front and passenger door; then a parking lot ding in the passenger side weatherstrip. So for "an evenly matched paint job", Carmax had to take off 4g's, leaving me at a grand total of $6,000 compared to the infamous "Kbb" value.

Of course I could have it fixed for much cheaper, but they have already appraised my car. And I was under the impression that once you take your car to one Carmax, it is put in thier database and other Carmax Dealer's already know what is wrong with your car.

Your better off selling it privately anyways, everybody knows that. Just because your too impatient and lazy, doesn't mean you get to bitch about Carmax.

Just my .02

God forbid.
I left the car buisness because i got so tiered of dealing with stupid people.I do miss telling people to sell thier car to KBB when they insist that KBB says it worth a said amount and seeing the expresion on thier face.

If you are not willing to invest your own time into selling your car then be prepared to take less for it than it may be worth on the open market, period.

agreed.
so kids, the lesson we should all learn today is NEVER TAKE A LOAN FOR MORE THAN 10K ON ANY CAR. period. my old POSes get me where i need to go comfortably, reliably, and fairly quickly. and i owe nothing. so...all that money that wouldve been spent on loans goes straight into my pocket. plus, i dont need to worry about this BS and can sell my car pretty easily. life w/o loans>life w/debt

What I meant was nobody was reading the thread and understanding what he was talking about, everybody was too busy saying he was a dumbass for trying to get what he wanted for it.

The dent is a moot point. I tried to explain why. Perhaps my explaination was not understandable?
