I know senility effects one's ability to keep track of time, but my car has been off the road for less than 2 years.

Some of us on TR do have a real life to attend to as well as our automotive projects.

I could have always taken leonard's fast track route of buying someone else's fiberglass and pinto parts kit car, but I prefer to not engage in turd polishing.

Fast and cheap. My overall game plan is to have a relaxed daily driver to fall back on, and then the wild weekend ride. Weekend rides by definition don't have to be all that dependable as half of the fun is in working on them. If it doesn't have to be perfectly reliable, you can go pretty fast without spending a pretty big amount of cash. Going really fast also involves a certain amount of unreliability, so I saw screw that part of the trifecta.

My current problem is that my weekend car is also my daily. Just biding my time and keeping on the lookout for a good deal.

There is that school of thought, but unless you are talking about extremely rere atuomobiles, there are much better investments than cars. The trouble with cars is in order to protect your investment you must constantly be worried about what the next owner will want. That sort of takes the fun out of it for me. I see no point in having a car than you can't drive where you want, when you want and how you want because it will devalue it for the next guy. Buy real estate instead.

Oh, 2 years rather than 2½ years. Well that changes things, doesn't it? Maybe we should count some of it's previous life in the total downtime too. I don't recall it ever running right.

BTW, the word is "affects".

Yes, and those of us who do actually enjoy it. You should really try it sometime.

And yet, there you are polishing away. Let's hope the outcome for 600HP930 is more of a success than 400HP930 was.

I didn't really say that my car is an investment - but in my toys - of which my car is one - my goals is to lose as little money as possible. My last Porsche I bought for 22K - used it for two years - a cab totaled it and I got 23.5k out of it. This car I bought for 19K - even with the money I have put in it (all tasteful and performance enhacing) I could probably sell it tomorrow for mid to low 20's.

Is my goal to make money on my toys? no, but it sure makes it easier to step up to the next level when you don't lose money on your current project. That's all - just a different way to look at it...
