Default reds machine shop info

Anyone dealt with them? I've heard from two people that they sucked. Gonna need my machining done within the next week, also if you know of a good place, list it and a number if ya can. Thanks

Well I'm not looking for the cheapest place in town, but not the most expensive either. It was gonna cost about 279 for Reds to do a complete rebuild on the shortblock.

I for one would lean towards Engine Lab. I have had a multitude of things done there, when I worked at Secret, everything we couldn't do went to them unless specifically requested otherwise.

I also gave Reds a try once when I was in a hurry. Lol, the replacement crank for the one that they touched is now at Engine Lab.

It's a decent mom n pop operation. But I wouldn't expect more than a one shot wonder if you chose them. I've heard both good and bad aboutthem, so you take your chances. I've never heard anything bad (that was solid info) about Engine Lab.

Hope I helped.

Psifactor form these boards had a bunch of customer service problems from Engine Labs, and they seem to be outrageously overpriced.

Well, they can go both ways. I dont think they are overpriced for the peace of mind that they do things more than right. They have some seriously advanced equipment. I urge you to tour Red's facilities, then Engine Labs facilities.

The guys at engine labs overlook nothing. There is nothing too trivial or insignifigcant to them. If you want the job done right and your build or part to last. they can more than provide in that area too. If you want just what needs to be done to get by, they can do that too; however, that's not what they're about.

If you want "Just enough" get a quote from both places.

I know Psifactor personally, I wasn't aware she had any problems with them. I am positive however that there are always two sides to every story. Tony is an honest guy, get with him about whatever disputes you heard about and have him clear the air.
These guy's aren't "Salesmen" just out for your money, they have PLENTY of work over there. I don't know if Red's can say the same.

Get with Jeff "Cronic" about Reds, he knows the people personally and still has problems with them.

I'm giving you my honest opinion of craftsmanship/overall work quality between the two. I am in no way obliged to represent one over the other. It's just obvious when things get done right.

Isn't Red's the one just outside of Ybor? Little building with barred windows? Yeah, if it is, that's where Jeff's motor is.. and his car's been down for three months thanks to them... so... yeah, I wouldn't let them do a fucking tire change, let alone rebuid another motor.

That's why they will NEVER be recommended by myself, or Jeff.

Engine Lab man. I was going to have mine done elsewhere but seriously tour both shops and your mind will be made up. You can have your motor built in a dusty, greasy, shop OR Engine Lab can use some of the best equipment around in a spotless A+ facility. THey even go as far as hooking your motor up to a machine after its built and pumping oil through it to make sure everything flows evenly. To me, the extra money is more than well spent when you know for fact that the engine will be done RIGHT THE FIRST TIME! Hell if its good enough for one of the most pickiest and "it has to be done this way" race teams, its more than good enough for me.
