I need a shop that can drill out a snapped cam cap bolt from a B18A head. Anyone know how to do this or know someone that can get it done quickly like on monday let me know. This is urgent.

If the head snapped then there is no real pressure on the bolt anymore (best case scenario). You can normally stick a flat head in the hole and twist the bolt back out or if its a graver matter and there is too much pressure on the threads you can hit a place like ACE hardware and pick up a bolt extraction kit. No need to take the head off. Id offer this bit of advice though use a tap wrench and not a normal wrench when threading the extractor in (if its small) as they tend to break easier with wrenches.

I cant go to Eisles because i need this done tomorrow. I took my motor there for boring and whatever recently and just wasnt all that happy with the service. The quality of work was good but i mean they broke one of my LS pistons and didnt mention it until i came back to ask for them. It was kinda shady. Anyways the tap didnt work. I tried the 5/64 bit from craftsman with the appropriate tap and it jsut snapped leaving the tip in the bolt. Its beyond anything i can do because its probably been like that for a couple years before i even got the motor. Thanks for your help Im just taking it to napa tomorrow and ive also heard national cylinder head is good.

You dont use a tap you use a bit extractor.
Looks a lot like a drill bit. Basically you screw it in counterclockwise and once it bottoms out it snugs up and the bolt comes right out of it. Its a damned simple job but youve gotta be using the right tools to get it done.

We used a bolt extractor he just called it the wrong name. This is a motor that we are building and the cam cap bolt has been broke off in there for a while since before he bought the motor. We didnt notice it until I installed the cams and realized one of the bolts wouldnt thread. Tried the standard bolt extractors but couldnt budge it. There was an expensive set of 4 extreactors that looks like it could do the job but the price is over $60 and Id feel safer just getting a machine shop to do it.

yeah sorry about my incorrect word choice. I know the difference. The guy at cylinder head national said even he cant do it. Its done with. The bolt extractor is really heavy duty stuff and in a 6 mm diameter bolt you cant drill through it. Ill just say a prayer and well bolt it up.

kj do you have access to glens welder? I got one out of a cam cap about a month ago by using my friend ottos mig if you can see the broken end of the bolt....if not it wont work but take a bolt same width and weld the end of the new bolt to the old broken end(dont weld the camcap do the bolt and get it nice and hot and attach the two and remove if you cant get any of the old bolt call terry and he can extract it he does machine work on an industrial level and has the best bits that is where napa will send you if they cant get it 935-6872....he is cheap and good but he does not generally do automotive work so the head will have to be off dont trust napa their work sucks.
