Price as compared to performance, aesthetics, and potential my money would be with a stock C5 before I would waste it on a mustang.
I like how stripped down they had to make the Cobra R to make it competetive, and they priced it out of the Mustang market.
Bottom Line:
Cobra R -- 2000
HP: 390Bhp
Weight: 3600lbs
Price: $54,000 (new)
Pwr/Wt: 390/3600=0.108
Corvette C5 -- 1999
HP: 345Bhp
Weight: 3200lbs
Price: $38685 (new)
Pwr/Wt: 345/3200=0.108
Looks like when taking their power to weight into consideration the two are pretty damn even. The 99' C5 weighs in a full $15K cheaper for the msrp...
So, now who is off base comparing those two cars?

God you guys really are uneducated on this vehicle. It was a Road racing vehicle, not a drag racing/cruiser. ive had the privalige (sp?) of riding in one and the cornering and tightness of the suspension is far superior to any production corvette ive seen. and almost 400HP out a relativly small cube OHC motor is quite impressive. unlike most of the vehcles you see out there with a large wing, this wing is quite functional at Sebring, etc
I hope Chuck sees this thread and can spread some knowledge to these undereducated people
BTW releasing under 300 of them total will usually help them not only hold thier value but increase it

Well, with the 15K you save on the C5 you can build a suspension setup that will decimate the Cobra R.
My point here is that the car was/is not a good value. it may be a collector piece, of that I do not dispute, and it may be good at what it does, and for what it is, but the simple fact is that the C5 is a better deal, dollar p/performance.

sure spend your 15K on suspension.. your still alot of HP short.. and will still get worked on a track.. ok.. so put in some heads and cams.. your up to par .. your still driving a C5 ..i see a ton of em every day..
the Cobra R is a classic.
