Default need some information

I am currently changing my interior from blue to black. and instead of trying to find black interior plastics, i am thinking about painting my current ones black. but herein lies my problem. im not sure which paint to use i know a laqueor paint but the only thing i can find is the Gloss black and im pretty positive i don't want to use gloss right? im looking for the factory type interior. so was hoping you ford guru's could help me out with it. thanks for your time. also thinking about dying my seats black. is it worth it?

You don't say what year or model your car is but I have black plastics for a 4-eyed coupe as well as a dash and console. If you respray, don't use laquer use dye for the plastics. One of the best is SEM Landau Black. You can find it at the Refinish Line on 49th St. across the street from the motorcycle class parking lot and just before the exit onto Roosevelt/East Bay Dr.

It's a spray plastic DYE not paint. All those plastics are made the same color usually a shade of dark gray to black. Then the factory sprays them with colored dye to get the desired color.

Clean, clean clean and then clean some more. The things have 20-30 years of Armorall and various other polishes and chemicals added to them. You need lots of soap and water, degreasers and even wipe it down with some laquer thinner using a scrubbie. SEM does have some prep products you can use to. It's like painting your car, it's almost all in the prep. When I get down to the spraying part, I spray 3 light coats to get good coverage then let it dry untouched for about a week. Do a google search on dying plastic interior pieces. Lots of good how-to's there as well as on Welcome to FourEyedPride.com .
