Don't get a 4.6 unless you get the DOHC. The SOHC is a sorry excuse for a V8.

here is another thing....dyno a new mustang 99+ bone stock and you will get about 240-255rwhp on a 2v motor........dyno a stock 5.0 and you will be luck to break into the 200 range, most are around 170.

slowlx5.0:what was your rwhp numbers?Notice you didnt post those.Due to my porting which I hoged out my torque didnt go up alot but I gain 107hp to the wheels at 5700rpm.My stock torque was 289 if I had 21more CIs then I would be at 290+rwhp/320+rwtq with a stock intake and stock cams not to shabby those cubes help out alot with your motor numbers if you only had 281CI then you would be in the 280s in rwtq.Id be willing to bet my avg.tq to the wheels would kill you even though you have more peak numbers.I dont think alot of 5.0lds realize how smooth the powerbands are in these cars they just dont feel like a 5.0ld from the seat of the pants drivin but at the track that long powerband shines through.
Mileage is not as bad on a 4.6l as it is on a 5.0ld.As long as it is under 70000 youll be fine, which is alot for any car. When I blew a piston on mine my engine builder asked me if I just rebuilt the motor and had another failure because it looked so good in there, no wear on anything and I have 40000 miles on mine.

Why did you chose the worst years for the GT? You are going to have to swap the heads from a 99-up GT if you want any decent gains. Try and find a '98 Cobra...best year for the SN-95 Cobra due to improved ECU programming over the previous years.

Ok the ones w/ 5.0's say pushrod. Then we say mod motor. Teg, I would get a 96-98 gt if I were u. The heads can breathe after 4500rpms. Phatstang is right. Gotta get the DOHC if you wanna go fast. Or atleast 99+ GT's are a huge improvement from later years.

As far as w/ the lack of torque comment on the mod motors. Can to take a ride in my car w/ me? I'll show u torque.

Teg- get either a 99+GT or a DOHC. That's your best bet. My car is has a stock longblock w/ just bolt-ons and full interior. -Mark

Oops. EDIT: Teg, don't get a 96-98 gt. The heads can't breathe after 4500rpms.

The heads can breathe past 4500 its more a bad intake design then the heads.Put the SVO intake on and MAC LTs and youll get 35-40rwhp and peak at around 5200rpms.Add some timing and 410s and go 5.0ld hunting.
With good tires you should be high 13s in good air.

though for me, you'd have to change it to 10 inches, and you'd have to change inches to millimeters, and you'd have to change 10 to 5 and you'd have to change dick to poor excuse for one.

Yeah, but you can't deny the value of 5.0's

Why did I choose it? I love Camaros but working on them is a bitch and aftermarket stuff costs more and is very limited. I have my daily driver leased truck( the Tacoma owns all of you ) so my choices for building up a fast car were down to a 3rd generation F-body(love the 91-92 Camaros) or 5.0 coupe( hatchbacks don't look as mean and GT's are too heavy) But it was the incredible aftermarket and endless ocean of parts from wrecked ones that drove me to that decision. Parts are half the price and every company makes 5.0 stuff. 4.6's might bebe a better car but the 5.0's are for racing on a budget

I'm a poor bastard
