for the track to anyone that is a hater on the 4.6 saying no torque look at what some of us are running with a little bit done. before I pretty much just had bolt ons and a blower and was in the mid 11s, Slobra just had headers and some spray and was in the low 11s with an unreal 60ft time.
So anyone that says the 5.0s are better for the track are just haters. You will see a lot more of them running faster because they have been around longer that is the only reason. Stock for stock a new mustang 4.6 will beat a 5.0 I don't think anyone is going to argue with that.

5.0 owns all,they repspond better to mods,cheaper to mod, mods are easier to do..its JMHO to get an 89-92 5.0..regardless whether its a coupe,hatchback or GT...the coupe being lightest..but i dont think the hatchback is much heavier..maybe a 100lbs+/-..and i like the way the GT's look...but its all up to you..test drive a nice pre 93 5.0 and then test drive a 96-98 GT and see which u like better..

If you want rumpy,bumpy,sqeeky,creeky,old technology get a 5.0ld.
If you want smooth acceleration,refined handling,way better looks,and technology that is not from the 60sor70s than get a 96-98gt slap some 2001 heads on it for around 2500 and go low 13s,high 12s,put a little NOS and goes low 12s or 11s with a smooth idle,stiffer chassis,better seats,quieter ride and kill most 5.0lds on the street.Now the track is diff.those 5.0lds have has a long time too perfect combos the 4.6l is an infant in that stage of the game,but in another 1-2yrs that will change there should be lots of cams to chose from turbo kits,an intake or two.Alot of manufactures are going full on with the 4.6s and will have lines out in short order.How many 5.0lds have 271rwhp/302rwtq and still have a stock intake and cams.I might be strkin my 4.6l then well see what the little 4.6 I mean 5.? will put down.

oh yeah, either just in the sn 95 platform..... (for daily driver)
id also go with a 4.6 for ease of working on it in the sn 95 platform, you can get at almost everything easily (with the exceptoion of the headers)
injectors tb madss air pullies are easily reached on the 4.6....
ps test drive a fox then a sn 95, you'll be sold on the sn 95
