Sudden NO OIL pressure
Matt, I've got that big ass hoist at the shop that you can use, you just need to be able to transport it

If its a stock oil pan it can be done. Its tricky though. Drop the pan enough to get to the pick up tube and oil pump. Unbolt them and let them drop into the pan. Unbolt the motor mounts raise the motor. Now here is the trick unbolt the four 15mm bolts on the back of the k member. Unbolt and remove the rearward 18mm k member bolts both passenger and driver sides and remove them. Lossen the front 18mm bolts (both sides of course) of the k member leave them in just lossen them leave the struts bolted up. Stick a pry bar and swing the k member foward and work the pan out.Now we do this all the time here at the shop but we have a lift. Its gonna be a pain doing it on your back. The hard part is putting the pump back in and getting the shaft lined up but there is a trick to that too. There is a way to drop it in from the top.

true. and not just the 302's. i've had that happen with two seperate 2.3 motors... one n/a and one turbo.

I was told that these shafts tend to twist up on strong motors and the chances are the pump is fine. So I'm going to attempt to install a new shaft through the dist hole with a magnet and some other type of ingenuity I may come up with. If I get the shaft in the pump I'll test it to see how it works. I just don't want to accept the fact that the pump is gone (because I don't want ot have to swap the bitch.)
