Default Sudden NO OIL pressure

I replaced a lifter today in the mustang. So of course it involved me removing the upper/lower intake, distributor, etc. I get everything back together and everything is tapping twice as loud. I noticed the gauge (stock) was reading 0 psi. It was hooked up and everything. I then installed a brand new mechanical pressure pump, still nothing. I even left the oil pressure port completely open as an ultimate test to see if there was pressure. Nothing came out.

Now what in the hell would cause my oil pump to go from working fine before cracking into the motor, to being absolutely dead after putting it together? The only link between the oil pump and the shit I removed the motor was the distributor. The dist is setting down perfectly, without issue. The shaft IS in the right spot (didn't some how fall out or anything). I'm skurred n kunfyoozd. What the hell happened here? Anyone?

what happened that you had to replace the lifter?

i would use a drill in reverse with the distributor out until you figure out what happened so you dont hurt the motor.

The lifter was tapping ever since I bought it. I finally got around to replacing it and when I put everything back together thats when the oil pump stopped working.

Matt, I have never personally had that problem, but I did a bunch of e-research and your situation doesn't look all that good.

Hopefully it's something easy like the oil filter...or maybe you didn't prime the oil right before restarting it.

Good luck.

This one is from a BMW site but I'm sure the troubleshooting would be the same considering they are hydraulic lifters:

The main things I would look at are the oil filter...then drop the oil pan and check the pick-up tube and screen for blockage.

Good luck man, low or no oil pressure seems like a pretty serious condition.

Found the cause... Pulled the shaft out through the distributor hole.... It's twisted up like a twizler and the part that goes into the dist is sheared off. D'OH!

Why it did that, I don't know. Tomorrow I'll buy a new shaft and attempt to prime it with the priming tool and drill (that I just bought tonight). As of right now, the stores are closed and I'm done for the night. Thanks for the replies though guys.
