I'm not going to bring the boost over 10psi probably not even over 7 or 8 in all actuality, on the stock motor, so I think the internal will work just fine. If I go higher boost with the built motor (in progress) then I will likely change turbos and go with an external wastegate. I'm trying to experience myself in turbos some using my car as a guinea pig. I've already done a bunch of porting/polishing I'm going to try out on the so called "guinea pig" . That's what I'm really working for with this little side project. Basically I completely removed the "SPI" part of the Ford SPI motor
. I may lose some torque, but gain in the upper RPM's, who knows. Maybe I'll gain on both ends of the spectrum

Another good thing about the IHI from a Turbo Coupe is the way the wastegate flapper is setup, you don't have to run the stock exhaust elbow off the turbo to keep the internal wastegate functional. If the downpipe points in the wrong direction, you can have one made that bolts to the turbo.

1. Bring a 5 lb. sledgehammer to the junkyard with you.
2. Locate donor car, pull intake tubing to turbo, check for a freely-spinning shaft without too much play.
3. Clear the area and proceed to beat the cast aluminum intake with the sledgehammer until it crumbles (literally).
4. Unbolt turbo. (Don't forget the P.B. Blaster!!)
