I think it's a good idea if you're short on cash but I would personally like to be able to tune my car with a laptop even though it costs alot more, most instances would be double the cost.

$300 Victor Jr intake
$400-$1000 Holley 750 or race carb modified for blow through

$400-$700 efi intake
$300-$800 injectors
$300 throttle body
$300-$500 mass air meter
$1000-$2000 engine management system
Im talking about taking a car with EFI on it already. We both know that you can go plenty fast without an aftermarket computer and still have good drivability. Also, your number are way inflated.

$500 - good intake
$400 - good injectors
$200 - throttle body
$400 - Mass air meter

..thats ballpark. My point is, its not that far off through say mid 10s, at which point you could probably save some $ with carb. There are other perks to EFI as well, like the laptop tune that you mentioned. I remember getting a distributor "curved" back in the day - talk about an inexact science! Same thing for fuel - jets? It just seems like in the end, because of the tunability, EFI would be nicer.

All that said - you can go faster for less money overall with carb, but I feel that only really is true when your dipping down into the 9 second zone.

.

all this money would much better be spent on port work.

LoL, why are you trying to convince me that efi is better than a carb setup, you're preaching to the quire. I was only making the point that it's much cheaper to run a carb over efi. I'd much rather have a efi setup. My prices include the high and low end. How are they inflated prices if my low numbers are lower than the numbers you put up? Cheap end you're gonna spend $700 on a carb and intake and $1500 for efi using your numbers. Now if you want to go really fast (7's, 8's, 9's) then the higher numbers I quoted are gonna come into play. You can make over 1000 hp with a turbo, Vic Jr, and blow through carb and spend about $1200 on the carb and intake. Now if you want to make over 1000 hp with efi you're gonna have to spend at least double that. So either way you look at it, cheap setup or expensive setup, you're gonna spend at least double for an efi setup over a carb setup.

But good point that even some good efi stuff has its limitations before you must upgrade to stand alone systems.

Different strokes for different folks as long as in the end you are driving a Ford product.
I think it's a great idea, sure when I decide to go really fast I'd love to have F.A.S.T, sewer pipe injectors, 90 mm throttle body, Hogan efi intake, laptop, bla, bla, bla, but I don't know if I'll be able to afford all that so when my car gets to the point of being an all out race car I'll deffinately be taking a carb blow through setup into consideration.

My point is, it doesnt save you much at all if your running 11s, but if your running 9s, you can certainly get there cheaper with a carb setup.

Umm, you don't need to do anything to your motor to go 11's, just bolt on a turbo kit. 11's is boring.
