Deep pockets can get anything done!! Do a carb conversion kit, then you'll have something!

I've already considered and researched every technical aspect of the swap. Trust me, I know there's some work involved but this isn't my first rodeo. I'm doing a couple things completely different than anyone else so far - and I still feel confident that I'll be able to swing this without calling in any extra help. At the same time, the car is getting a completely new suspension and the engine bay is getting smoothed/painted (remember, the other owner started it...sad).

The electronics are already sorted out ^^see above. Surprised you didn't see this Jim, master of Google.

I'd be one of the guys that would do a carb conversion to that motor too.

They have the stand alone ignition for the 4.6/5.4 engines. But with variable valve timing you'd need a combo controller that ran the 'VTEC' along with the ignition. I dont think the motor would make as much power with out the variable valve timing unless you went with custom cams and disabled it. Thats an expensive prospect no matter how you look at it. 4v cams are $$$$$

As popular as the new 5.0's are I have no doubt in my mind the aftermarket will be cashing in on people wanting to faster. It wasnt long after the first 5.0's came out and a whole plethora of parts hit the market that we never had before. I mean it took over 25 years for the aftermarket to make a head for for the SBF,.. the old cast iron Dart head. Even TrickFlow's first head was cast iron. The hot lick back in the day was swapping Cleveland heads to the Windsor motors. Now look at the choices we have. I think in 3 - 5 years time there will be so much crap flooding the market for these new 5.0 motors the average guy should be able to afford most of it. Some of the stuff out now is ridiculously priced. A Triax Shifter, Barton bracket and new ball or handle will set you back $400. If thats the new trend then the days of $100 shifters are gone. I remember back in 1989 cringing at paying $125 for a Hurst shifter for my new GT. I didnt pay that much for the 4.10 ring and pinion,.. (which has also gone up in price LOL). I'm slowly turning into one of those old fuckers who says "I remember paying a nickel for my Coke". Actually they were $.25 when I was a kid. See what I mean?

Have you looked at one of the new shifters? They are much more complicated - honestly, I'm surprised that they don't cost more.
I doubt they will be much less in 3-5 years. IMO, the 5.0 crate engine is PAINFULLY cheap for what you get - compared to previous DOHC crate motor offerings.

I dont know Jeff,.. your definition of painfully cheap and mine are on completely different ends of the spectrum.

Painfully cheap to me is paying $1200 for a 345hp motor with 4994 miles on it. Painfully cheap is doing the entire swap with long tubes, new cam and everything putting over 400hp to the ground for under $3000. Thats painfully cheap IMO.

The GM 6.0 and Fords new 5.0 are on equal grounds in terms of performance IMO. The new 5.0 isnt giving anything up by being 65ci smaller either. Its a bad ass motor for sure. How ever,.. Once my project is done I'm only a 150 shot away from low 10 second ET's. And thats in a set up not even meant for drag racing. Then later down the road I still have the option to stroke this thing,.. 6.0's make nice 408 and 427's also.

Motor to motor if you get that 5.0 in your car I think we'll be on even ground performance wise. I'd really like for us to get together and get some runs in when you are done. Right now I'm looking at May for a completion date. How far are you from getting your car road worthy? Maybe we could hit the track or if you dont mind coming up here to Pasco the Suncoast parkway is pretty deserted during the wee hours if you wanted to do some roll runs instead of digs.

Ah but you took that out of context. I said it was painfully cheap compared to other DOHC offerings.

I also love the idea of the new 5.0 in an old 5.0

It won't be setup for drag racing either but I always want to know what time my car turns . I'm def down for a track day

It definitely has the cool factor Jeff. Both of us in a parking lot with our hoods up I guarantee you'll get more of a crowd then I will.

And other DOHC offerings as compared to what? C headed motors or what about the first gen B head motors? The stock 4.6's can go up to about 430 - 450hp safely when done right. You can do a B head motor for pretty cheap. Hell I was seriously considering doing a carb'd 5.4 Navigator engine before I found the LQ9 I have now. About 320hp on motor and a progressive 150 shot would put the stock rods at their limit. Not sure if that would be enough for 10's,.. but it would definitely be a fun ride.

They CAN go that high, but none of them will without throwing at LEAST as much money at them as the 2011 crate motor costs.

It all boils down to what everyone knows. Going fast NA costs money. I'm sure the availability will increase (and cost will decrease) as these cars get wrecked but at $5800 shipped - I still maintain that it's a bargain. I'll likely make 410-430 at the wheels which is damn sexy for that price + MPG + OEM Reliability.
