Default New guy with a transmission problem

May as well get it over with…I’m new. I have a 2001 Mustang LX, 3.8L V6 (don’t laugh too hard). The automatic transmission is slowly but surely dying and I’m wanting to convert to a higher-performance manual, a 6-speed if possible. I intend to upgrade it piece by piece, but for now just the transmission and related parts.

I’ve got no clue where to start. Can anyone point me in the right direction?
Thanks.

One direction you need to be pointed in is to change the font color...people who use daytime settings cannot see what you type very well. Second if and when the tranny is out, why not a swap as well, and you dont need a six speed, you could also go built auto.

Sorry about the font...new guy. I'm going to swap it out, hopefully before it dies. But, with the exception of a tranny and a clutch, I've got no clue what parts I need to buy or where to find them. I'm trying to plan to plan ahead for an engine swap down the road, that's why a possible 6-speed.

Because of the parts I'm picking, it's going to run me about $2500 in parts alone. But the cost for a mechanic is going to depend on who you pick. I haven't gotten that far yet.
