Is drifting really racing?
Do I get to chime in? Let me take a swipe at this.
The biggest problem with acceptance of Drifting as a legitimate "Sport" has been lack of knowledge and an unwillingness to learn. Rally, Auto-X, Drag, and Raod racing has been around for MANY, MANY years, in fact, there hasn't been a new "Motor Sport" since tractor pulls came about around 25 years ago. Do you think somebody out there questioned it? You betcha!
I welcome this new dawn. I have been saying for years that Drifting was the next big thing....back when Taylor tried drifting the Miata @ Macdilll AFB! 2004 is the year that the sport will gain acceptance, and be truly recognized. IS it a "Race"?, maybe not as you would normally percieve it, but is it a "MOTORSPORT"? Hell Yes.
What remains to be seen is how people who didn't start 2-3 years ago (like myself for various reasons) decide to dabble in the sport. I've participated in Auto-X's for many, many years, so I obviously love to drive, but now I would like to attempt drifting. My question is how will people like "us noobs" be greated into this world.

the best way to look at drifting is to look at it like the X-game of car sports. not totally a sport and is judged but takes great skill and can be a beautiful thing. thats the best way i can see to describe drifting as a sport. Just go watch the X-games then watch D1. Basically the same shit, only with cars.
And scott i was being sarcastic. i loved this thread. i thought it brought up some very good points. Hope this helped a little.
