Attention! Heart BrokenI drive a 2013 Dodge Charger 5.7 Hemi V8. I went through a puddle on New Year's Eve. Blew my engine. I thought it was the heads, replaced them. Turns out the block is cracked (like my heart) does anyone know of a decently priced engine or where I can find one for a reasonable price. I figured I'm just gonna drop the entire engine in it and be done. Please assist. Thank you for your time. Bless 👑

How deep was this "puddle"? Did the engine ingest water through the intake?

I didn't appear to be deep at all. The street dips and the water was deep enough for it look even. I anticipated a la few inches. Turned out to be like two three feet 🤦‍♂️. It shut off on me, once I was nearing the end. So I decided to try and start it, it kicked on and sounded horrible. So my intelligent self told me to do it again lol so yeah. That was the last time I drove my car. My entire air intake was filled with water.

This doesn't help with the already ruined engine, but might help prevent it from happening again. I was paranoid about this exact sort of thing when I got my car. I made a ~3" hole in the side of the airbox, parallel to the direction of the normal airflow. This keeps it from pulling air from the engine bay normally. Now if something (ie water) blocks the main intake off it creates a large amount of resistance with the air coming through that way. Fortunately air, much like electricity and any other fluid, is lazy. When the main intake is blocked the air takes the path of least resistance and comes in through that new hole rather than pulling air and water from the lower part of the intake. So as long as you're not flooring it through the puddle, this should be more than enough air to keep water from getting pulled into the motor.

A lot of auto insurance companies will pay you if your engine hydro-locked--not pretty since water doesn't compress something has to give, usually bends the connecting rods or breaks them and throws them through the block. USAA paid my brother to have the engine in his Ford Ranger pickup replaced after he drove through 2' of water and blew it up.Attached Thumbnails
