If WOT scares you, then don't WOT. Further, if WOT scares you on a SV650, why even consider moving up to a litre bike? It is certainly not going to be less scary!

As for how to get over your fear... it is just like anything else, open the throttle a little bit further each time until you get comfortable with where the limit is for bringing the front up off the ground. Just takes time and experience. How long have you been riding? Sounds like you just need more seat time to me.

Finally, why are you racing anything when you are not yet comfortable with throttle control!?! Don't be the next rider down thread!!!

+1

gears 1-2 can roll on wheelies no prob, 3 & 4 will come up with preload and a sharp twist. Definitely don't want WOT in 1-2 unless you have a death wish.

Corner speed has nothing to do with power, it's all skill. On a long straight, you can fly past 600s like they're standing still.

I actually started out on a liter+ bike and didnt have a problem. Sure, I realize not everyone has that sort of temperment, but since I started big, I'm used to that sort of hp.

I dont ride to "look cool", and when I started riding, I didnt care if I got thrashed by the guys on 600 bikes..I was more concerned about keeping myself alive while learning to ride.

If you feel "dumb" when you get your ass handed to you by a smaller bike, perhaps you should reevaluate why you ride. You shoudnt be out there to be faster than everyone else, or to prove that you've got a bigger dick or money than the other guy. You should be out there to improve your own skills daily.

A guy with an ego to prove coupled with inexperience on a liter bike = death on 2 wheels.

Its all the rider, not the machine... but I must say, having that extra power still slaps a grin on my face.

i learned on a 600, 10 minutes after putting my leg over it, i was already twisting full throttle on second gear, never really want all crazy on first
then got an older 1000, and second gear used to scare me, i thought i was gonna fly off, few weeks after i was doing wheelies on first gear, now with my newer 600, i just hit it in first gear, bearly comes up and i keep going till i run out of 6th gear

The down side to this is the obvious, what you used to think was a long straight road is not such a long straight road anymore. You can EASILY over ride your ability w/o even knowing till you look down and you are going 140mph in a 45mph zone, by the time you look up, your two blocks farther down the road and about to come to that intersection with the stop sign. Pucker up and pray there isnt traffic....

Yeah im over exaggerating, but this guy sounds like he's one of those guys who thinks he's a badass drag racer on a liter bike who races back and forth across the bridge...wow...that sounds fun, not. i just dont wanna see this guy acting like those tools we all make fun of and shake our heads at naaaw meeeeen man? But if you think you posess self control then by all means saddle up and enjoy.

I don't 'race' across the bridge, or at all for that matter. The time I raced my friend in his focus was to 65 mph, I slowed down to wait for him because I didnt know where we were going. The whole racing thing was said by someone else, not me..about getting beaten by guys on a 600. I dont track race, so where would I get beaten by one?

^Where? in the twisties (north run, south run, east run, North georgia, tenn, south carolina, west virginia...) and pretty much any time you ride with a sportbike group....

Most of us on here dont get to go to the track every weekend..if at all.
