Good luck with it VW.. How them Phaetons sellin?
And I dont understand it. VW owns Audi.. Why would they go after the Audi market???
I wish VW would stick to what it used to do best, and what its known for. Good, basic cars. If VW is making luxury cars, whats the purpose of Audi? If they want to get into sports cars, why have Porsche?
Its like if Ford was to come out with luxury car to compete with the Town Car..Doesnt make sense.. If its cheaper than a Town Car, it would take away business from their existing line. If it is the same price as a Town Car, people would just buy the damn Town Car.
Same with this. If they want to get into the Audi market, why not just sell it as an Audi at the same price?

And VW doesnt understand why it has to struggle in the US market...
Totally! IMO VW should abandon the luxury segment and get back to economy and sport-compact stuff. They more luxurious they get, they more they canabalize Audi.

When the New Beetle came out in '98 I couldn't believe the sticker price, not to mention how far the basic philosophy was from the originals.

This is a hot ride, though. I hope they can move a good amount.

I agree with you 100 %. What happened to VW? They used to be the one German car you can afford. Now even the bettle can dent your pockets.

Now as far as them competing with their own companies, you have to look at it from there view. Not everyone knows about VW owning Audi or even Dodge, Jeep, and Crystler being all of the same company. VW owns Audi and thats their luxury cars. Audi then competes with BMW and Mercedes. If VW made a car two compete with Audi then they would also be competing with BMW and Benz. So people now have another choice. Instead of buying Benz or BMW they can buy the VW or Audi. So even if VW sales go down and Audi goes up, the money still goes to one place. Plus with more of their own cars in the running they can take away sales from other competitors.

It can be argued that no one really makes a pocket rocket anymore, so what's the point? You cannot really try to claim the modern A5 GTi is a pocket rocket, and neither is the new Civic. Manufacturer's have unanimously started making larger, heavier, "safer", and more "efficient" automobiles. So again I ask, what is the point? To appease the small percentage of the population that is the "tuner crowd"? In the generalized automotive manufacturer sense, that appeasement is simply "custom" shift knobs, muffler tips, and "ground effects".

None of you understand do you?
VW is NOT the same old company as in the 40's 50's 60's and 70's. Neither is Ford, Jaguar, or Hyundai either. VW is an EXPENSIVE GERMAN engineered brand made w/ cheap outsourced parts from the lowest bidder so they can sell them cheap so everyone can afford one. If any of you had a clue as to the level of technology that is in every car from the 04 Touareg and 05 Phaeton and on to the Passat and Jetta/Rabbit/GTI and now the EOS, you'd shit yourself and wonder how we fix them. Oh and by the way they are coming out w/ a new minivan and a small SUV to compete w/ the Ford Escape size market. Rumor has it also, that a truck based on the Touareg will come at some point.
Vw is doing what every other large car company does and is creating vehicles that are in demand in markets that it thinks it can reach.
Tell me the reason for the Blazer, Jimmy, and Oldsmobile whateverit'scalled. How about the Jaguar s-type and the Lincoln LS? same car except for the skin and rims.
Don't forget VW owns Laborghini, Bentley, Seat, Skoda, Bugatti and of course Audi. If someone wanted sports cars, they'd be the one company to ask how to do it.
The EOS is supposed to hit Mercedes square in the chops w/ the retractable hard top and german quality, because unlike the Jetta and GTi it is made in Portugal in one of VW's world factories. Also no other convertible w/ or without a hard top convertible has a full functioning sunroof too!!
Study this car a little more before you slam it. I've spent Quite a few hours with this car in training to prepare for it and I'm seriously impressed.
And I'm of the opinion that VW has made some real crap for quite some time.

I personally think VW's biggest fault is it's lack of quality marketing for itself and it's vehicles.
When's the last time you saw a really great commercial for a VW that made you really want that car?
