Partly because some areas have a larger PD rather than a Sheriff's Office. Some rely more on the state. In other cases you have multiple small township pd's rather than a larger agency.

Actually HCSO is not staffed as fully as it should be by population. Some agencies have a better officer to citizen ratio. It is not bad by any means but it is not disapportionate.

As a side note, Hillsborough county jail (which many agencies use) has more people arrested in a year than some WHOLE STATES!!:o I remember reading Montana as one of them.

Hillsborough County is in the top 1-3 in the state as far as traffic deaths and DUI's (ever why so many cops run traffic). Because of this there are many state and federal grants given to this county to combat those problems.

There are many amzing statistics about this area in comparison to the rest of the state and country. Hillsborough county is growing at a very fast pace and doesn't look like it will stop anytime soon.

Did you know there is something like 5 active gangs in Hillsborough County? Supposedly it is at the stages now that LA gangs were 20 years ago. I sure hope we don't have that to look forward to.

Almost all of the benefits you list HCSO and TPD also give. I understand that where you came from is automatically going to be better but in this day and age most of your larger agencies around the country stay competitive in salaries and benefits.

Personally I was shocked when I first saw 4 years ago that NYPD started at $28,000 and TPD was higher considering how much more it costs to live up there. Over the years they have increased the pay but it isn't like you will find a 2000 sq ft house to live in up there on Police salary.

 

You are right about the housing costs un north race, that is why a lot of people are in rent/ price controlled housing. NYPD has many many problems that both of us could write about for years. I'll try to get another paper on montgomery counties pay that shows the pay set up. There you work 4 10 hour days and are asked to work at least one more 10 hour day. Most police officers there double their pay in overtime. For example, attending one high school football game in or out of uniform will pay you 200 bucks, not bad to watch some ball huh? I will admit that Montgomery county is one of the most expenisve counties in the area to live but with other counties near it can be much cheaper (if that makes sense). Frederick county (negibor to MC) is the 4th fastest growing county in the nation (meaning faster then HC, FL) and does not face nearly the problem/growning pains that HC does. Honistly I believe that bitching about this does not do any good. I have seriously considered going on the HCSO but am uneasy about quite a few things. I'd like to think that if HCSO got a few more good men every year this county would swing around. I also think the infighting between HCSO and TPD needs to stop as they are only hurting eachother and allowing crimes to go unpunnished. The bottom line is, everyone, police officer or not, needs to do their part to support the community. (now that I am completely off topic I'll stop typing and post this).

Well, i know Nassau County PD (Levittown, NY) makes somewhere near $100,00 starting salary, but there is over 10 years worth of waiting to get in.

Im going for a career in the FBI. Go to college for four years until im 22, hit the FBI Academy in Quantico for 6 weeks, and i think im going to do a 1 year internship as well. Then voila! Hired at my dream job making over $60,000 in my first year. heh, if i watch what i buy id be able to have my F-250 paid off in less than 2 years!

But yea... completely OT but oh well lol.

 

Honestly bro there isn't much difference here. Off-duty jobs pay at $23/hr and that is NOT overtime. You can usually make more on overtime work. You are not forced to do either if you don't want to.

I notice with Montgomery County you get a take home car AFTER 18 months on the job. Here it about 3 months, and new car after 1 year.

As far as infighting with TPD, I can tell you there is none. Yes there is little things here and there that resort from dept pride but I deal with them on a DAILY basis and have no problems at work.

I look at this organization just like the military, there are many different units and organizations and you will have some friction because of that but when it comes time to do the job that goes away.

Oh and BTW HCSO has no District 5. Where do your buddies work again? I would think since you state you know so much about HCSO that you would easily know the structure. What I find funny is that I have worked there for a couple of years and I don't know everyone there nor what happens all over, you seem to know about it all but have no connection to it.

 

I said he works the fletcher area, I could give two shits less about HCSO b/c they are retards but that isn't the point. Infighting does occure between HCSO and TPA, see Bruce B Downs, if I need to expand on that you don't know what you are talking about. I am wondering where I claim to know everyone? Go back to the army, where you seem to know oh so much???
