half the price? your crazy. a mustang gt 5.0 base model is $30k which is about what a stock mk4tt 6 speed goes for in MINT shape and the mustang has MORE hp, without the need of a turbo, is brand new, and prolly handles alot better as well(imagine what the support for this thing will be after its been out for 20 years!). yes the mk4 is prolly the best car of its time, but its time was 15+ years ago. also, as for the economy hurting the value, it isnt hurting it as much as the fact that the car is old, and most people that can afford it would rather have something new. now if toyota came out with a new supra, then you can best beleive the sales on it would be astronomical. no matter how badass any car is, when it hits a certain age, most of the crowd that was interested in it move on to the next big thing. the fact of the matter is, there are ALOT of cars out now that out perform a stock mk4 tt. you guys seem to be under the illusion that every mk4 out there is a 1000rwhp monster that can pull over 1g on a lateral skid pad. it just inst the case. also, most the cars that do have that kind of power, arnt driven very much, and live most of their lives in a garage or shop as a simple "bragging rights" tool and nothing more. i love supras, but the mk4 is old now and isnt different. everythings already been done to the hilt. people want to explore new options, thats what keeps people going. like it or not, the mk4 likely will never regain the value it once had, except for the bone stock low mileage units that will be sold to collectors later down the road.(think about what bone stock low mileage numbers matching muscle cars go for on the barrett jackson auction). folks, the muscle car era has started a new chapter in recent years and its likely to continue for quite some time.

btwm check out this 4 door lexus that also makes more power then the mk4, and is also naturally aspirated.

williamb82 your right there's a bunch of other cars that in stock form have better performance than the mk4 and for someone who's not really into supras they are good choices, and your right with a mk4 you are getting a used car for the price of a new one. but us supra guys dont care bout that there's really no other car i want besides a 73 corolla and every other toyota ever made lol. I like the new 5.0 mustang myself but i doubt it could take on the mk4 in handling with its live rear axle vs the mk4s front+rear independent wishbone suspension. also the lexus is a great car but its worht 50K+

have you driven one of the new mustangs with a solid rear axel setup? they can be setup to handle awesome. some of the fastest cars in scca have solid rear axels. and yes, i understand about toyota loyalty, i have 3 mk2 supras as they are my fav car of all time. that wont ever change. but there arnt many mk4 owners that are like that, hell, i turned down a 94 black/black n/a 5 speed hardtop for $4,400 from a friend of the family when i had the cash in the bank, because i prefere my mk2 over a mk4. as mentioned by others, alot of people wanted a mk4 for the "cool" factor. that was all due to the f&f movies. that fad has died off and the "cool" things to own have changed. yes its still "cool" to own a mk4, but nothing like it used to be. pull up a fully kitted s15 silva conversion murdered out next to a mk4 at the same gas station. most everyone will crowd the s15 over the mk4. yes, true gear heads in the know would look at the supra first, but the most noticable would be the slower, s15 drifto fad car.

as a friend of mine used to say back in the day, "youll get more ass with a slow honda with a body kit then you will with a fast old school toyota!" sad but true. at least the mk4 can still get some ass cause "isnt that the car from the movie?"

I agree with William. His arguments are directed toward the general population, and if you leave your Toyota Love out of this (I had to), you'll see that he's absolutely right. But, at the same time, everyone's different. I could care less about any of the new cars out. Japanese or American, none of the new cars appeal to me. And no American cars appeal to me either way. I never plan on buying a new car, because I'm stuck in the 80's and 90's, and frankly, I like it. Cars made in the '80's hatchback style will never come back. Auto Manufacturers try to bring it back with modern styling, and it just doesn't work for me. I was very disappointed when the new 350Z came out, because I had known it was supposed to replace the 300ZX, which I thought looked great. The new FT-86 is kinda cool looking, but SO not my style.

There will always be people with this view about cars, but the general population always moves on to the newer bigger and better things. The general population ALWAYS precedes the enthusiasts when it comes to the value of cars.

I highly doubt William is trying to steer you away from buying either an MK3 or an MK4 Supra. To my understanding, he's simply providing his own insight onto your argument about how the value of the Supra will fluctuate within the next decade.

im def not steering anyone away from buying a supra. as i said, i own 3 currently, and have owned 11 total. i love my supras. but i know that there arnt many people out there that do that could afford to pay the inflated prices that the mk4 used to go for. the price is driven by demand. and the demand just isnt what it used to be, and it will only go down as time goes on.
