Default whats the best yr supra to start with?

hey ive always been in the nissan forums and i recently became curious about the supra....

ive seen several 87 supras floating around, and im not sure what year of the car would have the most plentiful aftermarket support/engines/etc for it.

so i was wondering, if i wanted to get into supras, what year of the car would be the best to work on?

I've been debating on whether or not to open up the can of worms that usually comes with this kind of thread by replying, but what the heck, why not.

No one can tell you what's best for you. We don't really know your situation. I personally love the MKIII (86.5-92) but being involved with them for years, I wouldn't recommend them to the average Joe. To answer your question about plentiful aftermarket support...........the MKIV (93-98 ) Supra has tons of aftermarket parts available and makes stupid horsepower with choice parts. The MKIII still has plenty of parts around but I think it's safe to say that there's a bigger market in the MKIV.

Bottom line is that you're going to spend a lot of money to get a fast Supra. It will just be your choice to decide on the platform

MKIII ~ 1,500 - 9,000
That example being from a beaten up car to a low mileage clean car

MKIV Twin Turbo ~ 20,000- 70,000

Obviously these are ball park numbers and the higher priced may have lots of work into them already.

The 86.5-88 pretty much look the same. There are a few exterior and interior changes with the 89-92 versions. I believe there is a right up that shows all the changes from year to year. I'll see if i can find it for you. Maybe it can help you with your choice.

Found.

87-88 are gonna be ridiculously easy to find especially in a junk yard or on ebay. 89 is a wierd year with a 90+ look but a lot of 88 type wiring. owners of 90-92 are not gonna be so willing to give up their cars. either way you go they are gonna be great to drive with or without TEMS but carry all the wallet raping potential of the mk4.
