Ricksta MR2 Build Thread
pure sex arrived in the mail today!
brand new set of hks 264 intake and exhaust

and my ats valve springs

i cant read chinese!

i'll have my motor back from the machine shop probably next week. i would have had it this week but while sean was puttin the motor together he said one of the rod bolts wouldnt torque down properly so i need to get a new set. supposively its a factory error who knows.... he said at his costs they were 83 dollars but damn i can get arp for 50 shipped! going to have to call him about that tomorro.
motor will be forged with eagle rods and wiseco pistons 86.5mm, rebuilt with oem bearings, 20 over, hot tanked, micropolished and balanced.
what do you think of my choice of color? i think its gonna look hawt in a black duece

i got my full 93 oem gasket kit

my speed source top feed fuel rail reminds me of a shotgun barrel lol. this thing is going to flow godly!

and finally i have my arp head bolts and my cometic 1.2mm head gasket.

ive still got a few more things on the way. my RMR 75mm end mount intake mani is still being built. i wont have that for another 5 to 6 weeks. and i still need to order my precision turbo 880cc top feed injectors and clips. soon i'll be able to start putting this monster together and wiring up the megasquirt v3.

The "3SGTE/22R" rod bolts are made of 8740 chrome moly steel and rated at 200K psi while the ARP 2000's are rated at 220-230K psi. Replacement rod bolts for aftermarket rods are usually not off the shelf parts in many stores and I highly doubt the $40-50 ARP 3S/22R rod bolt kit is for the same application as Eagle rods. They are really meant for when you are replacing the stock bolts for stock rods.
Good luck with the build though, looks like it's coming alone nicely.

get rid of that shitty ass cometic HG. get something that won't blow, like a HKS, tomei or apexi. that and for gods sake don't do megasquirt. get a real mangament system like aem or something. you'll be alot ahppier in the long run. that and make sure you get a ball bearing turbo. a 3071r will get you welll over 420hp and spool alot faster than that t3/t4. besides that it should be pretty sick.

A Cometic MHG is a great MLS HG when doing rebuilds. We use them on almost of our builds here without them "blowing" and with great success. People "blow" a new Cometic in my experience is because they either, a) didn't install it properly, or b) didn't take the time to follow directions...A cometic MHG requires 50RA or better surface finish for proper sealing.
Depends. Eagle rods have come with standard 7/16" ARP bolts. Most of the newer sets come with 5/16" ARP 2000 rod bolts.

The point of getting aftermarket rods for the 3SGTE is for reducing rotational mass, which the Eagles do quite fine. If people only cared about having a strong rod in their build, then stock rods would have sufficed as they hold up to 500-600whp without a hitch.
Why not just remove the casting edges with a carbite bit and put on some ARP rod bolts with ACL bearings then line hone
Also it's still made in china, why not get carrillo or crower? Only reason i see getting eagle rods is if you got a REALY good deal.
Other then that sweet cams and valve springs and sean knows whats up with 3sgte's.
