Many times it is, but not always. There are many different ways to vary cam/valve timing that are used.

As far as the HG...just fine, as I have an HKS MHG torqued right. I've never had a HG problem with my Supras.

For the record, all 7Ms were improperly torqued from the factory, because the original 56 ft lb spec was for asbestos HGs instead of the material they used instead. Thats the only problem; the HGs arent weak or troublesome. Anyone who says otherwise hasnt done research or had experience. Frankly, the fact that they last 100-150k miles on average should be commended I think..holding up so well to a HG torqued wrong. I'd like to see that same problem happen with other cars.

The GM pushrod 3.8 (which is an excellent engine) for example would blow HGs on the turbo ones originally, though it was because the engine wasnt built for boost properlly...neither was the 7M, which has been pretty damn similar since the original M way back when and the 3M in the 2000GT

I could fire back with a torque comment on the 1JZ, but I know they arent torqueless after having a ride myself; the comment people make about the 1JZ's lack of torque is just as legitimate as the 7M's crappy HG's; which is to say not at all

lack of torque(if any, i mean i do drive hondas) is easily overcome by 4.30 gears and a small(er) turbo. As for tercels, I would like to have a one just so people would leave me alone and not want to steal me car.
