Actually there is very little difference in weight...the less displacement and materials for the block is probably counterbalanced with the extra turbo. I believe the actual weight difference is in the double digits

Friend of mine made 350rwhp or so on them, but a stock CT-26 has run an 11 second quarter mile. I suppose the CT-12as are definetly better than the CT2Sucks though

Not anymore...1JZs are harder and harder to find nowadays and are becoming worth more because of the 1JZ bandwagon

Very good point against the 7M however. My opinion is to find a 7M that you can find all of it's past life and experiences, regardless of current condition, then rebuild it completly with everything better.

I swung on 1JZs nuts for a whole year, so I used to know stuff about them. Now I think the 7M is the perfect engine

Oh, and HachiBill is right, technically cars with similarly built characteristics are capable of 7k+ I have only heard, though the 86.5-early 89s will be your best bet for revving. The differences are very little between the two...the pre89 7M is closer to a 6M than a "7M" really in some ways, which still isnt different. Dont make it a make-or-break subject based off of year/crank

do not know the exact weight of each engine, but when installing in a vehicle such as in a truck that used to have a 7m in it, the truck sat about 2"s taller, that should give some idea...i personally know 3 different people that have purchased complete "engine,harness,turbos,ecu,ect..." one was a front clip complete...shipped for well under 2k

I had the same question with my car and I am sticking with the 1j in my car. I am in it for direct drop in though. I wanted something with good daily drivability and a good power band. I also saw one person say the 1j was cheap and one say it is expensive. It is true that the 1j is getting harder to find at importers but also there are more out there being sold and sold back as a result of poor money management and failed budget requirements in the suspect build up. THis gets you a lot of people who thought they had the time and money selling the clip (or motor) back at a lot lower cost. Don't let shipping scare you. You will be able to ship the clip for under 500 from anywhere in the contiental us and th emotor for even less. My count from NY to FL was 350 and I got a better deal then that in the end. I just got my jzx81 clip for 1500 + shipping so look around and you will find the right deal. Anyways if you want a 7m-gte motor I have a spare one for you : ) The aftermarket parts for the 7m over the 1j is another plus, Front facing intake manifolds are available which to me definetly dresses the 7m up. Check supramania supraforums and other supra resources to get the skinny on the motors. We can only tell you from personal preference and your assumed needs. It is you who knows exactly what you want and you need to get that from both our input and your own research

PS don't the NA cams only increase power in pre 89 motors. And the 6m crank can't hold massive amounts of power as it is known they break around the 600 mark ,but that is more then you want, the reving will be an issue but a head job is right around the corner.

N/A cams increase 10 HP throught the powerband...the turbo MkIII cams never changed in the years. The cams have less lift and more duration, which is good for lower end probably. And finally the only cam that is different is the intake cam IIRC, all exhaust cams are identicle
