...i understand were all of u r coming from..and yes i know if something would to break it will be hard to get parts.few things that i like so far bout the 1g over a 7m> GAS MILELAGE....the 7m sucks up way more gas compared to this, not saying that the 7m isnt good on gas.plus a little weight difference also compared to a 7m 3.0 .im not sure what the weight diff is but its significant i bet...and i like to be different .and as far as most parts go..been researching , suprisingly alot is compatible with 7m's and 1j's..a few things off a 2J but not much...its not that pansey ..stock is only 10hp down of A 7MGTE stock ...do miss torque from a 7m but i like the rev happy 2.0l 8k redline(i dont ever take it that far)

its a pansy engine with ZERO potential unless you drop major money into it....and most aftermarket parts will be hard to come by if at all....let alone stock parts you need....i really dont see much coming off of completely different engines that will bolt right up to it.....
either way im glad youre happy with it....but dont tell someone else to get a 1g or a 7m...cause thats just dumb.

Yeah I agree with Idealsupra jump on the bandwagon and go 7m, don't do anything unique such as using a JDM engine that is period correct for the car anyway. Besides who would want an engine such as 1g that sounds way way more badass than a 7m or 1jz would with any turbo combination or tune? Does every persons' goal have to be more power and torque?

bottom line is 7m>1g .... not to mention MUCH easier for a do it yourselfer to do.....
we arent talking about a 1j here....which would have its benefits for doing...this is a 1g...
oh and by the way... i dont see a 2 liter 1g sounding better then a 3 liter 7m... the 2.5 liter 1jz sounds like ass .... 7m sound>*

then u havnt heard one then? ..sounds a shit lode meaner than a 7m , now if its a modded 7m im sure it would sound mean ..but im all stock , open downpipe >until i have an exhaust made..all i hear is spool up and downspool and a very mean loud exhaust note..Toy Doctor can vouche for it..im not bragging,...but back to original subject for cost and easly swap do a 7m , be diiferent and slow

EDIT: on a side note...are you planning on coming to the big tampa supra meet in a couple of weeks? i want as many mk3s there as possible...should have at least 3 500+hp ones

Allright, so finds himself a used 7m with about 80,000 to 120,000k on odometer. With that mileage the motor is almost guaranteed to be on it's second or third HG. So you might as well tear it down and put a fourth one in it. Then upon further inspection he finds heavy block errosion just like every other high mileage 7m has. Now this "do it yourselfer" motor swap has just turned into a complete engine overhaul. After a decked head and block surface, new pistons and bearings, studs and MHG, you can honestly say that the engine could be a reliable motor swap that will last 150k or so.
But instead of an engine swap costing $700 to $1100 it will end up being $2200 to $2600 for a bone stock engine that is good for 235 bhp.
I'm only pointing this out because I have personally been burned by this engine time and time again with continuous problems. This engine is plagued with inherent flaws that can't be remedied.

main reason i talk shit bout 7M's is cause half the ones ive seen are ragged out , and no taken care of for shit..unfourtanetly i experienced a ragged out supra, i bought one for my first car ..tranny blew 3 months after i got it ..all stock no mods..only mods were intake and exhaust and a turbo timer..i dont think it was too heavily modded on a 130k motor..HG blows 6 months later .replace Hgwith HKS 1.5m and ARP studs, port and polish along with head resurface.reinstall ,timing redone and blew up on the way home from toyota.spun bearing , driving normal

that whole paragraph is a complete load of shit.....
first off you can get a jdm 7m that will have maybe 50k miles on it at MOST...
secondly if you have the engine out you are stupid not to put in a mhg...and do this is rather simple now that the cometic is available...
so to have a perfectly good engine in the car with a mhg...youre probably looking at 1500.
now go and try a 1g to begin with....then when you do have it shipped here...mmmhmmmm..
and im sorry to say...but if you have continuous problems with the 7m its 100% user error....
rod bearing problems are 100% user error....and if the hg is fixed CORRECTLY then there wont be any problems.

spun bearing=user error...as in low oil or contaminated oil....PERIOD. seems to me like after your bhg you didnt flush out the oiling and coolant system well enough...allowing it to contaminate and eventually give you the rod bearing problem.....thats a common USER error....
and a motor that has been abused and then you get it and mod it or whatever...a 3inch exhaust is enough to bump the boost almost double...from 7 to 10-12psi....thats definintley enough to push a ragged out stock hg to the limits....
it sucks you had a bad experience with a 7m.....but dont preach about the 1g being better in ANY aspect then the 7m because it simply is not....
