the 1jz head is designed by YAMAHA. it flows better and the power delivery is much smoother than a 2jz. this setup is known as the 1.5jz. its still a soarer lhd or not.(imo) the five speed soarer is rare. just swap the auto for mani when you swap the motors. back to the 1.5jz, the .5 liters gained is not all that much of a benifit, but the fact is the 2jz internals are 6-700hp capable box stock. the 1jz is around 5-600hp ready. personally i would spend the 2500dollars (for the short block) on upgrading the stock turbos. the stockers turbine blades are only good for 14-16pounds befor they shatter. the compressor wheels are a little small too. ADI on i-supra has the stockers upgraded with kkk compressor wheels and steel turbine wheels. the housings have beens enlarged also. they are now capable of about 600hp. the this is my route. the stock fuel system on the 1jz is good for 400hp so that would not be an issue for a while. 1js rule you.

this is what happens when the 1jz spools. hahahaha.
also with the shorter stroke of the 1jz the piston speed @6500rpm is the same as the 2jz piston speed@7500redline.
this is wht the 1jz is better than a 2jz and 1.5jz. the shorter stroke allows the 1j to rev harder and higher. lighter rotating assembly is a cause also. lets say you jump in a camero or any performace v8 and floor it to redine. pretty slow rev huh.
now jump in a gsr or any small displacement motor and do the same. revs faster and harder. just like f1 and superbikes. samll stroke=fast rev. the quicker you can get into the powerband and reach max boost and hp the faster you will go
sure there is a replacement for displacment.
its called boost.

the short stroke is why i also want a 1g-gte. 2.0 l-6.
so nice.
