So me and a buddy were driving to the auto parts store to get parts for his pos 300z.. and i shifted into second gear, gave it a little gas and let off. What sounded to me was compressor surge, and my buddy asked if i heard it too. So i wasn't hearing things.. It's a 04 Sti 100% bone stock. Is this common? i wasn't on it maybe less than 1/4 throttle, and let off.

stock bypass valve.. I did take the scoop for the air intake and the elbow out of the fender.. other than that 100% stock

 

may not be surge, may be stall, depends on whats happening, if your only at 1/4 throttle i doubt it is surge. may want to swap the bov and see if it goes away. if the valve cannot vent the psi fast enough it causes a stall in the compressor.

 

I can hear the valve venting back into the intake and it seems to be working fine. This is the first time i heard this, and haven't heard it since.

 

so it only happened once? there are a bunch of you tube videos of surge, did it sound like that. do you have a boost gauge, when it happened what did the gauge read?

Its probably just "fluttering", common with 1/4 throttle

 

i wouldnt worry about it
