So, it doesn't make the noise in neutral with the clutch engaged?

When it's happening, does it change sound if you place some pressure on the shift lever (try different directions)?

It makes noise any time I am rolling, doesn't matter if I am in gear or not, whether the clutch is engaged or disengaged. The whining gets progressively louder, the faster I go. So If I am going 60 and throw it into neutral, I will still hear the whining/whirling noise. Also when I shift into 5th, I get an additional whining noise when the synchros are meshing up.

It still isn't difficult to shift gears. I'll check if the noise changes when I put pressure on the lever.

the gear clusters in your transmission are spinning at all times even in neutral so you would hear it all the time if it was related to the gears. that if is intrnally related but i doubt it. could be center diff/front diff does it go away depending on if you push the clutch in or out

Random question, but is 5th gear in your transmission direct drive? If it is that might be why it gets louder since the driveline is locking in sync with the engine. If not then I just made a useless post

No it does not go away when I push the clutch in or out, atleast the times that I did it, it just got a little quieter. If I throw it in neutral and let it coast though, the noise is quieter than if lets say I had it in 5th and cruising.

After I drain the fluid this weekend, I'll get my video camera and record the noises it's making.

Could a bad rear diff also send noises to the tranny? I mean it is directly connected to it through the drive shaft.

Oh and I put pressure on the lever while in gear and I did not getting any change in noise that I could tell.

Okay, so an update. I haven't changed the fluid or anything, but I did notice something today. I had to accelerate into traffic and it seemed like the car was having trouble putting power to the ground, especially when on a slight curve.

Normally when I'd drive the car easily for a week and then get on it, it would feel pretty damn quick, but today it just felt slow. I have not had any motor issues, no CELs, nothing.

Oh and clutch is still new, around 6k miles on it.
