08 preza
yeah dont mod it at all, save your money
tbe=turbo back exhaust
cai=cold air intake
tmic=top mount intercooler
fmic=front mount intercooler
em=engine management
the base impreza has no room for improvement, you obviously came from hondas which is why
1. you bought a base impreza
2. you think you can just stick a turbo on it
3. want to put cams in it
some problems
1. the base impreza is not a car to modify, it would be a total waste of money
2. the engines are completely different, its not just a wrx engine without a turbo
3. we have boxer engines, cams require removal of the engine because they are on the sides.

2. i wanted to build up the motor first before i just start bolting shit on
3. i know the engines are differant...instead of buying a completely new car i was just going to try and put some work into the car for her...
4. if it was up to me i would have got an sti to began with
the money youd need to put in it to make it even the same hp as an sti will cost more then trading it in to get one
just make sure you dont want an sti over the wrx because if you go buying a wrx, you might regret it. i know alot of people that regret getting a wrx just because the sti is more for your money. for the price difference of the two, i think its well worth just taking the sti. all depends on what fits your buget, of course, sti's tend to up your insurance tremendously.

Agreed start with an STi.

Wow...
Subarus are not like Civics, you cant just buy the base model and slap an intake and an exhaust on it then call it a day. Then drive around annoying me.....
Best bet would be to buy a WRX at the least but I say spring for STi (but I might be slightly bias
)... If you are serious let me know my friend works at a dealer and has some 04 WRX's and 06 STi's.
Besides subarus arent like VW's you cant slowly work up building the engine while still driving. You either need to commit or expect to have a downd car for a while. And even when its done I promise for some reason it wont be reliable. lol They just never go back together like they came from the box

coming from an "old" and been around for a long while subaru fanatic...
The build for the 08 impreza will cost 2 metric shit tons...to get into it however will be most of your big expenses. Get a full blown EM, rip your engine out to replace with a $8-10K longblock, also why the engines out, swap to the turbo model front crossmember, then buy a UR 42R turbo kit, then comes about $1.5k in fuel system (not kidding)...I haven't gotten to the drivetrain yet.
You will need to buy an R180 rear end from an STi, have custom DSS axles made to fit the new platform as you have different hubs (or swap completely to the New STi hubs, lat links, brakes, etc and still buy DSS axles), clutch (I'd recommend a twin or triple plate if going at it right), source a pull type trans from an 02-05 wrx and have a PPG gearset installed (or get an sti 6-spd and hope you don't blow it up)...I'm assuming you are chasing a 9 second bike with this list though...
If you just have a 600 to beat, get an 08 STi, slap on injectors, fuel pump, FMIC, TBE and GT850R...you'll be into the 10's that way

More like 6k. Plus a new clutch.
I have over 7.5k+ in the tranny alone.
