Default not much...

If your plan on modding up a stock 2.0 block your in for some heart break buddy. Mine blew a rod bearing at 81k and with bolt ons. Best bet with an 02-03 bugeye is to do a 2.5 swap. Then after you do that and mod the shit outta that motor, prepare to be fixing the glass box transmission thats on there. I donno ive gotten pretttty lucky with my cars tranny.

I would think that it all depends on the tune....plenty of people making 250-290 whp with simple stuff. dont skimp on the most important part though.... TUNE!

LOL what are you tallking about!!!!

with a meth kit and vf22 you can make 310whp....

the 2.0 can handle plenty of abuse.... ppl who are blowing rods at 81k miles... take into consideration how many miles you have.

ej205's can take tons of abuse so long as oil and tune are taken care of...most I've personally seen is 420whp from a factory ej205....

edit: it was also a time bomb and on a built tranny

blown engines at 81K miles? I now have 101K on my '04 wagon of which the last ~60K miles have had a personal tune on it. Pulls on basic stage 2 tunes with no problem. No engine or tranny problems (knock on wood) the biggest thing is how you drive it and how it is tuned.

can handle around 300whp, just dont drive like an asshatt launching all the time and slamming gears and your tranny should hold. good call on the 2.5. get a 6spd while your at it.

Yea for another $5K. Between the 2.5 and a 6-spd you'd be better off selling your car and buying a used STi. Trust me, I've been there. I have an 03 with a 2.5 swap and with my other mods I have over $30K into the car and I still haven't purchased my 6-spd yet.

Even if you do buy the 2.5 your still maxed out at ~300HP because of the tranny. And, yours being an 02, you have the worst possible tranny.

I baby my car and I spend a lot of money/time in upkeep. I dont drive it like a maniac and it gets all of the regular maintenance on time and with the best products. I have ~300 to the wheels and I wont go any furter until I can afford the 6-spd swap or PPG's.

So, my recommendation, if you want big horsepower go buy an STi it will actually save you money. If you want moderate range of power and you take extremely good care of your vehicle and dont drive like an idiot, keep your car and enjoy modding it.
