there are people who have made 400+ whp on stock ej20, stock tranny however is a different story. My ejso has made over 25owhp for about 2 years.....DD. And for the last 7 months or so with 300whp/308 wtq

the tune is key

Exacltly.

I personally know someone with a GT40 and stock tranny. Been like that for a few months. Putting out close to 400 with c16. Its anyday now that the tranny will go. If you pamper it (like i do) it will last with around 300whp.

Know another guy with a vf22 and 18g since 20k miles. He has 95k stock tranny (inc clutch) and stock internals. He is 300+ with meth.

I have had over 320awhp for 5 months no tranny issues at all. Its about not driving like a jackarse.

Don't get it twisted though you go big (330-400) its only a matter of time if you like to run through the gears a lot.

But i guess me being the 3rd owner didnt help either. I did replace the oem clutch at like 65k miles. And that was when the car was bone stock.so i guess that just goes to show that my rod spinning was obviously part of the other two owners driving like tards. All i know is im happy with my 2.5 block and supportin mods for my 18g =)
Yea dude but 85% of the cases bearings issues are oil related.
What oil were you running?

I know plenty of care 310+ stock internals with over 30k miles on the setup. One with over 75k.

Its about the tune. Not going to aggressive with timing and staying away from det.

The 50 or so engines i have seen blown towed in. None have had a broken component out of the blue. Oil starvation, or rings giving out from det. (low comp in cylinder from crap tunes).

So its about keep at least a 5w-40 in the sump and making sure you have enough oil and a good tune. Soobys like to burn a little oil and if your over a quart low you could be in for a spun bearing very easily.

Default what oil?

I WAS running mobile 1 10W30 since i had the car at like 55k miles. And i was always extremely meticulous about changing the oil every 3k miles. I did the oil changes myself so i know they always got done right. Now wether or not mobile 1 is good for the car is a nother story and is debatable as well. Im using castrol syntec 10W30 full synthetic now..my new motor has like maybe 1k miles on it now?

You know what dude i don't know. There has been at least 5 bearing where M1 was to blame. I never knew what, why, or how? I always thought it was a scapegoat. But, after hearing your anal about your oil like i am makes me wonder. Thats why i just stay away from it. Good to know that though.

well the 2.5 sti short block from mastro is like 2k, and it also comes with a parts warranty from subaru as well. as far as sti tranny goes, no clue and im not gonna even bother getting one. im just gonna get some ppgs or some ra's and be done with that stuff. Then maybe ill tune my car to around 400 and leave that alone as well. i paid like 6400 for the block, cp pistons, ported n polished heads and also had them rebuilt and i got some sti cams as well in it. i also threw on the big turbo xs top mount and the k&n Typhoon. Then i bought an MHI tdo5 18g turbo. but i havent put it in yet because im waiting on a tune. I just have everything else in place waiting for it...

There was a kid on nasioc selling a 2.5 short block that had been in a wrecked car. Cant remember if its a sti or wrx. But he was selling for dirt cheap. The block was supposed to have been in good shape. I think it might still be up there. Check it out.
