mine made 306whp back in the day...and was around for years. mine had lower mileage as i bought the car new but i did put 20k modded miles on it

as far as what i've seen...i've seen stock internal wrx's put down 375+ at the wheels for a bit...

bottom line..when you are ready to make the power...be prepared to replace it....the tranny is weak sauce.

I made 305hp/312tq on the stock block pushing 21psi with 100 octane. My tranny crapped out on me after numerous hard launches at the drag strip (my fault), rebuilt it with STi RA gears. I've never had a problem with the motor, or the transmission since it was rebuilt.

Tell you what though, if I could do it all over again I'd get the STi (got mine the year before the STi came out ). Bigger block, bigger brakes, better transmission....

Hey if you can get a motor/tranny cheap, go for it. Those are the big ticket items...if you find another one, let me know.

i guess my opinion of the ej20 comes from partly working at mastro for awhile and seeing them all busted to shit, plus some that ive seen laying around S&R with holes in the block. I donno i guess depends on the tune and what you do to it. I didnt do anything to my motor and i never overboosted mine either. I just had bolt ons for the longest time. But i guess me being the 3rd owner didnt help either. I did replace the oem clutch at like 65k miles. And that was when the car was bone stock.so i guess that just goes to show that my rod spinning was obviously part of the other two owners driving like tards. All i know is im happy with my 2.5 block and supportin mods for my 18g =)

if you are shooting for a 290-300 whp dd you are find on a EJ20 so long as you have a good tune...they aren't the most indestructable block ever

I too have seen more than my fair share of popped ones...normally rod bearing failure...and that is why I have gotten the majority of my engine build customers...
