I disagree with this statement depending on the track and type of racing. At a big road course you could absolutely take advantage of a 6 spd. I use 6th on the back stright at sebring, and I dont even have that much power.

For drag racing, I would agree that a 6 speed is pointless

i wish they made the 6 speeds like the vettes...where 6th gear is actually an overdrive...and you can get good gas mileage...damn them!

it's a drivers 6-speed!!!

could you replace the STi 6th gear with something better on gas? I know a buddy of mine did that on his B-series Honda tranny with something silly like Type-R 1-4 and GSR 5th (or something like that).

ppg helical will hold almost anything you can throw at it. Yeh you sacrifice some strength, but not enough to be worried about it breaking. Id worry about other things breaking before any of the ppg gears break.

Absolutely. While straight will hold up to more and more abuse, a good helical gear set can hold a LOT. For example, in a GTR, a good helical gearset will hold 8-900 no problem. The stock can go at 4-500 with a hard 3rd gear shift.
