Why ECUTEK
per david @ ecutek
Ez-ECU and Custom ECU.
EcuTeK are shortly releasing two new software versions aimed at the Subaru enthusiast.
They are currently applicable for all ECU's supported in the ProECU Flash 2004 software. This is all 2004 ECU’s with electronic throttle control, principally the USDM Sti and Legacy GT.
Other US model ECU support will follow should these new packages prove popular and we feel that our US partners can provide the proper level of support.
Ez-ECU is a package which allows you to flash program a file into your own car. The ROM file will be supplied by the dealer who has supplied you with Ez-ECU and this file is "ROM keyed" so that only this customer can program it.
This means the file cannot be opened, edited, distributed or programmed into anyone else's car than the one intended by the supplying tuner.
Ez-ECU includes the very powerful and valuable DeltaDash logging package, and includes a training CD.
The advantage of this is that you can receive Ez-ECU from a tuner you know or know that produces a package suitable for your requirements. The tuner will then be able to e-mail you a ROM file which he is confident will be correct for your specification. Because Ez-ECU includes the powerful data logging software you will be able to carefully check that the new program is operating correctly. Should any adjustments be needed the tuner will be able to see from a log (which can be e-mailed to him) exactly what needs to be done and can modify the ROM file and mail it back to you.
You can of course save several ROM files for programming if using the car under different conditions.
You will also be supplied with the correct original ROM file for programming the ECU back to stock, therefore keeping the CIN, CVN and VIN numbers correct.
Because the ROM file is keyed to your software the tuner will be confident that he can send you his most valuable work without fear of it being programmed into unsuitable cars.
If, in the future, you want to makes some changes to the car or it requires a different program you can data log again and mail that to your tuner enabling him to provide a modified file suitable for your new modifications.
Programming a ROM file into you car takes approximately two minutes.
Ez-ECU is perfect for the customer who may be some distance away from his favourite tuning shop but wants the flexibility to make changes without having to understand the complexities of ECU mapping.
Custom ECU is one major step further and allows editing of a ROM file prior to programming.
It is again supplied with DeltaDash and includes a training CD and manuals.
It also has the facility to program "ROM keyed" files which cannot be opened for editing.
This package is for the customer who would not normally visit a tuner and has the time and the ability to carry out their own mapping.
Currently you might be considering buying a competitor product such as a stand-alone programmable ECU or a programmable piggyback system. Our solution is easier to program, faster to map and offers more accurate long term control. With access to a huge range of maps and data. Programming a ROM file into you car takes approximately two minutes.
We would anticipate that the tuner supplying Custom ECU would perhaps want to supply a "ROM keyed" file and an editable file which is perhaps set up to be within 80% of your best performance ROM data. With these two files the customer can modify safe in the knowledge that he has something good to aim at. You would also be supplied the standard ROM file.
Of course the file that you have generated can be saved and distributed and with the internet being what it is, can be swapped and information exchanged across the country.
This software is incredibly powerful and allows an enormous amount of control and flexibility. It also requires a healthy knowledge and understanding of engine testing and mapping techniques.
We hope that with good support from our partners in the US and the knowledge base that will build up on the forums that this will enable the enthusiastic tuner to get the best from his car.
EcuTeK is still 100% committed to our dealer network and trade only business model.
With this in mind we will not be selling this directly either from the UK or from the North American office. We will only be supplying this to current EcuTeK partners who we feel have demonstrated to us over the last year or so that they can carry out good work and that they can offer real customer support for this.
We will be adding a new section to our forum for discussion about this product but we will not be accepting any support requests from customers directly. That is the job of the supplying dealer.
Software bugs, fixes yes, but "My boost is only 0.85 bar and in the boost map I put 2 bar" no.
Of course after a short while a lot of the support will be self generating after some of the knowledge gained by customers has been shared across the internet.
We have not finalised pricing or release dates but we are currently testing this and be assured that because it is a follow on product from our Pro-ECU tuning software that it is well proven and very powerful.
We will be posting up some map screen shots and more information shortly.

I dont know why you guys are trashing ECUTEK. I went to Mastro to get it with only a turboback exhaust and walked out with 230awhp and 220 something lb/ft tq. Maybe mine is just a rare occasion but they made my car a shit load faster. I am going back there to have them put on an APS uppipe, APS SR30 turbo and APS DR725 FMIC with larger injectors and new fuel pump. By the way I baselined at 174 hp. I think they did pretty good!

EVERY version of E.M. will have it's limitations, and its only a matter of when/how that limit shows that maters. for me, the custom tuning is a neccesity, and the power of the oem ECU is very tough to beat, really (sans hydra!)
BE CAREFUL having the up-pipe replaced, as it is in emissions violation (not sure if they'll tackle that for you anyway, as a result!).
this clearly will net you an appreciable gain again, and im hoping that you really enjoy the new found power.
as for the dr725, well, id try to find someone who'll trade cores w/ you on that (seek a dr500/650, if possible). i dunno if the 725 is overkill for a 2.5l vf39 application, but i do think the 650/500 core would be beter suited for the 2.0l. I expect that they can use a FMIC to their advantage and actually make more power (and adjust ignition/cam timing much more agressively down low to combat any of the potential 'lag').
happy hunting, and good luck w/ it all. i hope you get plenty of pics and documentation on this upgrade (id like to have the data to read....hint...hint...)
ese
yeah I talked to thg uys at Mastro about everything and they assured me that the choices of parts I made are the best for the power I want. I plan on making about 350awhp. But yeah I was skepticle on the size of that intercooler but I'm sure they can get me a smaller one like the 650/500 core. I liek APS products. Not many people use them cause they are kinda of expensive but you get what you pay for. Thats what I think! I will have pics when its done! Thanks man!
the only problem i see with ecutek is finding a tuner that will pull the most out of a car. i'm not saying bill is a bad tuner, idk if he is or not. it seems like its hard to find one. other than that, i dont see any problems with ecutek, my car drives like its stock, idles like its stock, and gets great gas mileage. what more could you ask for besides some extra power
