Basically get a thick piece of float glass, hell any glass if you can manage to not break it. Anyway, glue some sandpaper on the flat surface and drag the piece of whatever across it. Be careful of applying pressure unevenly. Its the only way that I found to make sure a surface stays completely flat and get the gunk/shit off it.

i cleaned the bottom portion of the block a few days ago.
taped off some random pieces, the bottom portion of the block, and the head today.
a before pic(all of the marks on it wont come out no matter how much i scrub..):

all of it after being cleaned, taped, and painted.

i am very happy with how it is all turning out.
dropping the tranny and LSD off with my buddy BJ sometime this week to have it installed.

went and picked up my tranny from my friend BJ. he hooked me up huge. he installed my new wavetrac lsd, new bearings, and new seals. he did a great job.

i will be cleaning, taping off, and painting the tranny like i did the rest of the motor. but for now here it is:

for those that can tell there is an lsd in there.

and this should be on its way in the mail to me soon. i paid for it last night so i hope i get it this week or next at the latest.

thanks for looking.
