go turbo or ls/vtec

Stick with your LS bottom end, get a VTEC head, and boost it. You can see more power for less money with an LS/VTEC and boost.
Do not go with a standard t3. You will not be happy with it's performance. Your best, and least expensive option would be to go with a t3/t4 hybrid turbo. I've seen awesome gains and minimal lag from a t3/t4 60 trim, with a 63 a/r and a stage 5 wheel.
This turbo will cost you around 600 dollars, and will make close to 400whp. You will see full boost around 3600-4000rpm. On 8psi you should see 280-310whp. On the LS bottom end you will be seeing around 240-270whp.
If you stick with an LS head, you will be playing catchup to what you "could" be making with a VTEC head. They flow better.

Oh, and just on a side note. Although the book is great, it's not exactly a beginner book. I have not read it, but have referrenced things from it on several occasions. If you're into books and can absorb information well from reading, then I say spend the 40 bucks on the book. It's a really good book. -- You just don't need it.
umm, I DO have the book...and it starts at a begginner level and quickly ramps up to highly technical discussions, but come on, lets be realistic here....this kid is still in school....he cant possibly afford to build his engine for boost like it should be done(unless he does it over the course of a year) and is not willing to spend much money on his project, why spend all that money on a turbo his stock engine will not be able to handle, I have said it once before and will say it again, vtec is not that great, its neat sure....but NOT worth the extra cost or complexity of switching over, with a head averging $300, head gasket, t-belt and various other bs another $1-300, you could already find a cheap junkyard t3, cheapo manifold(dime a dozen for hondas) and a used RRFPR your already most of the way to a turbo kit which will give your more power and torque(hondas are so cheap to make a turbo kit for), true you dont have the "godlike" vtec but you also dont even have to crack a head bolt...why vtec now when you can do it later? and true, you dont absolutely need maximum boost, but you can design a far better turbo system if you read it first

i have looked in all the junk yards around me and they dont really have that much import cars unless they r very old and useless to this motor.... and i may be in school but wat does that mater and what is the book ur talkin bout
forget import cars go domestic, Chrysler k cars....about 20% are turbos k cars being dodgre aries, dodge shadows, dodge spirits, chrysler lebarons...hell they even made a turbo minivan, instead of k cars though I should actually say t1,t2,and t3 cars(the cars I'm talking about will all be 2.2 or 2.5L and will all say turbo on the valve cover) chrysler is the manufactures who has made the most production cars, the book is called Maximum Boost, b y Corky Bell ISBN#0-08376-0160-6
