Close to the TB. keep the inertial effects of the column of air working to your advantage. When the BOV is closer to the turbo all the air between the BOV and TB virtually comes to a stop. when you are back on it after a shift the turbo then has to re-accelerate all this mass of air to get it moving again. with BOV close to the TB all this air is already moving...so it is less work for the compressor.

we are talking very minor differences in response time...but if you are looking for response..then closer to the TB is better.

what if i just ran 1 bov next to the turbo and 1 bov next to the TB... hell its only 150 bux, why not!! LOL

just curious this may be off subject but i was lookin at the full race turbo kit which has the BOV on the intercooler.... what is the point of this and is that a good thing or does this go along with this whole subject where closer to the TB is better??????

The interia of air does indeed have a real effect. its very influencing on the operating characterisitics of a motor. Enthalpy summed it all up: keep the inertia of that column of air moving towards the TB and simply divert it out the BOV when the plate snaps shut... taht way when you get back on the throttle and it opens... the bov shuts and the air is already rushing into the intake.

If you look at intake manifolds, they have a method to the madness. Longer runners are for better low end breathing and torque... shorter runners are for better top end breathing and top end power/torque... the reason this happens is called "intertial supercharging". Ethalpy knows what im talkin about, im sure... it would take quite a long post to explain it and the physics behind it... but, just remember that the inertia of the air is a big factor sometimes.

No, you dont wanna put a bov at the turbo and at the TB... cuz when they both open, the air stuck between the two Bov's dies and lays stagnant and has to be reaccelerated again when the TB opens.

i hope that helps..

Oh, i forgot to mention that 2 BOV's are better than one cuz they can release more Air... not boost. its the same benefit as a 4 valve head over a 2 valve head. the increased cross-sectional area for air to flow thru is obviously beneficial. I think my pair of 1G DSM bovs will release more air than a single GReddy Type S. and the Aeromotive AFPR that i got with my 1G BOV's after trading my Type S will take me even farther but that has nothing to do w/ releasing air.
