do as you wish, but remember by taking a job for this low just to do it, you not only hurt yourself but you also hurt the photography market in your area. But its your life and your town, but try to keep that in perspective

Think about your future. Do it for free now to get in, and then what? You set the standard as a photog for free. When you want to start charging, they will not pay because they know they can get someone else for free. Working for free is never a good way to get "in". Rather you are pretty much letting someone know how your work is worth no pay.

IDK but I would feel wrong charging $150/hr. On my website I have a rate of $45/hr and I see that as alot. I mean I enjoy taking photos, do I really need to make $150/hr as a minimum? lol.

Highway robbery in my opinion. I feel bad taking like $25bux when taking photos of friends cars. lol. Like I said, my opinion.

Thats what you feel you are worth. I do not feel bad at all charging $350/hr, my time and my photographs are worth it. When someone hires me they know they are going to get quality images. They know i will arrive early to the event, look and act professionally, and they will receive their images within 48 hours of the event. Period. Thats how it goes. Photography is my job and my livelihood, i know what its worth. But again these are my feelings on the subject. I dont get paid what i get paid because i feel like im ripping people off.

just like anything...

Quality, Professionalism, and Cheap.... You can only pick two.

Photography is my business. Its not a hobby. If you wish it to be your business too, don't treat it as a hobby and vice versa.

Someone once told me, "To become a successful photographer, you first must become a successful business man."

BTW: i would rather shoot a car for free for friends then even bother charging $25. Takes much more time and money to scout a location and setup strobes. If its for friends, its a gift to them from me. That being said it takes alot for me to call someone a friend.

Once you start charging people money, they expect the world. It doesn't matter if it's $1 or $1,000,000 - so you'd better make it worth your while to accept the onus.

On a similar note, I've never charged anything for shooting cars but I've made countless friends doing it. (Car oriented people are some of the nicest people you'll ever meet IMO.) You have to know whether it's a hobby or a job, I really don't think it can be both. $10/r isn't enough for it to be a job, you're just extending your hobby into something that it shouldn't be.

I never charge friends for photos either, but I have the few that always do the whole "here, atleast take 20bucks" thing. I mean if it was a special occasion like a wedding or big birthday then yea they might pay that price because it's a memory they want to keep. IDK, I think it's because of the little work put into it. If I take photos of someones car it takes me an hour at max, then maybe an hour with PP. That would be $700 according to you and wow I would have a guilty conscience. It's something I like to do and I'd feel wrong doing that just for some photos. Yes they are done by someone that knows what they are doing... but $350/hr... geez. Vegas must me alot more expensive to live in than FL

Right now I have on my website an automotive shoot is $100 + travel charges if not in my zipcode.
And everything else is $45/hr + travel charges. I originally had it at like $75/hr but I felt bad and changed it

nope its the same cost of living maybe ~10% more. I didnt say YOU should charge $350/hr. Its not your career, you are a hobbyist. To prove that its not where i live, im coming to Florida for a job. im charging $250/hr (only reason i lowered my rate, is because its consistent pay by SKAM) to shoot the SKAM artist takeover in Miami for the WMC. If you know what you are worth then get it.

+100000000000000000000

you fully understand my point, Bravo!!

If you are going to make money as a photographer. MAKE MONEY as a photographer, not chump change.

If you are going to shoot pictures for fun, then shoot pictures FOR FUN.

Shit, on the strip, at Subway, $13.xx for a foot long! And like at our hotel, (T.I.) at one of the restaurants, it was like $6 for one bottle of Amber Bock.
