vibration after vlsd swap
Ok so i swapped out my welded diff for a s14 vlsd i got at the JY. It had 150ish thousand miles on it.
Whenever im coming to a stop my rear end will vibrate like crazy. I can hear it and feel it. I would say it does it from 10mph to 0. It rides nice when accelerating and have even peeled out a couple of times to see if i can hear/feel anything else. One other thing that i noticed is that something smokes from underneath the car. Seems to happened somewhere between the tailshaft of the tranny and the diff(doubt is the vlsd. Jacked up the rear end, put it in gear and nothing weird).
I know that s14 se's have a slight shorter DS due to the abs sensor and all that crap. Do you guys think its a bad carrier bearing? Im assuming since the DS is pushed forward its putting more stress on it and causing it to take a crap. Any ideas? Anyone heard something similar?

Had the same issue.
Check the back of the trans. There is a dust plate where the driveshaft slides in, should be black. It is pressed into the back of the trans. See if its touching the collar at the front of driveshaft.
Shit drove me crazy trying to figure it out.

You guys talking about this black piece? When i swapped diffs the DS was never removed. I should be jacking up the rear again one of these days to swap axles now and i will check it out just to rule it out. I did go back after i noticed the vibration and checked all my bolts again though.
Ever since i posted this and checked over my bolts like i said, I've driven it out to brandon once, work once, and around the house a couple of times. The only time its vibrated again was when i was pulling into my driveway coming home from work. I have torn boots on each of my axles and like stated, im swapping them too soon. Im kind of positive that axles wont fix it since i had driven it like that also and it never vibrated before the diff swap.
Can it be a bad diff? What are the symptoms of a bad diff?

Ya that black piece will most likely be rubbing a piece of your driveshaft. If you jack it up it may not be touching at that time. So check where that black piece could possibly touch any part of your driveshaft. Mine dug a groove into it. Had the same symptoms as you, drove me crazy for a week. Maybe the new diff is a tad longer.
Bad diff in my experiences were a whining sound. Also a thud sound stop and go. Or a grinding if the gears are screwed.
