But to be honest, I can't understand why ANYONE would ever swap an S13 SR20DE into an S13. The S14 SR20DE motors can be had for so cheap.

Perhaps the VVT scares them away. Who knows...but what ever floats your boat as far as motivation goes. Some guys like a motor that revs others like the grunt of displacement. It would be neat to drive a buzzy SRDE VVT.

Its a VTC head, not VVL, two completly mechanically different things. (both variable timing set ups on SR20's)

NA S14 SR is a decent motor. I wouldnt be surprised if with a few bolt ons and a tune you could reach 175hp. Either way an S14 SR is rated at 160/160. I'm sure if you really threw money at it you could make 200hp and do an S15 6spd and make hard top S2000.

Epstein was telling me a while back about an idea for an NA SR set up he came up with and it sounded awesome.

Anyways KA's are nothing special, and I never noticed any low range TQ, the stock gearing isnt exactly ideal.

VVT is variable valve timing. No one said VVL Dan

VVL and VTC are Nissan's fancy names for VVT.

Variable Cam Timing (VTC) is completely different from Variable Valve Lift (VVL.)

VTC can vary how long the cam keeps the valve open (up to like 25* IIRC), VVL changes how far the valve open by using a second set of cam lobes (think VTEC.)

I wasnt correcting you, just making sure Rhart doenst get them confused since SR's came with both types.

Or the Autech S15 SR20de, which makes over 200hp na.
11.7:1 compression from the factory.

I wouldnt mind an NA SR20 with high comp pistons, and a mild build, with ITB's.

Im not sure, I have all the specs on the motor saved on my computer, it had a 6 speed transmission, billet lightweight flywheel, upgraded clutch (supposedly same as Spec R), different fuel map, raised rev limiter from 7200-7500. Also higher lift cams, equal length 4 to 1 stainless steel headers.

Autech built the varietta, and I know that car had a 200hp NA motor and used the gearbox off the Spec R. I'm pretty sure thats the only model one that got it. So theres like 500 of those motors total (or how ever many variettas were made).

It'd be easier to just build an S14 SR with a VVL head and some other trick things, probably make more power too.

S14 NA SR20, VVL Head, GTi-R ITB's, 11.7:1 compression pistons, upgraded valvetrain and you would have a seriously badass motor.
