Where to get exhaust decibel tested?
i understand why, but i think you should prob just pay it. you may walk away with more court fees and the sapoena fees for the cop to come in. any legit exhaust shop will be able to test your exhaust.

radio shack sells one... don't know how awesome it is gonna be considering it is pretty hard to maintain a set tone, as that is what you are measuring with decibels... basically, how much distance a certain tone/note can carry before loosing its integrity.... get a trumpet and play a B flat... after a certain distance, it is no longer a B flat... that distance is your decibel rating...
Good luck fighting the ticket. I actually hope you win, but that is because I hate cops that do that crap instead of things far more important. You exhaust isn't as loud as the fart cannon crap you see a lot of, and those load ass, annoying fuckers don't ever get pulled over.
While you are looking for a tester and what not, you ought to call around to some lawyers and see what they say they can do.... TicketClinic is pretty good, think they are statewide. Never know, might be able to get it thrown out for the cost as a meter off of the simple fact that the cop that wrote the ticket didn't decibel test your car, he just did it by "ear" and in which case, stock srt-4 neons would get tickets all of the time and they are within the limitations of that statute...

Name calling is so 3rd grade... I would have expected more from a "senior" member. If you don't agree with me, that's perfectly fine. You are entitled to your own opinions and beliefs. Maybe one day when you are ticked for something ridiculous and decide not to bend over and take it someone will show you some courtesy. If you can't meaningfully contribute to my thread without insults or disparaging comments then please stay out.
edit: I've already gotten 3 exhaust tickets with three different exhausts. I have paid them all, it adds up after a while. This will be the fourth.

You're getting the doppler effect mixed up with sound intensity. Google both of those. dB in this case is a ratio of pressure levels. It has nothing to do with frequency changes, apparent or otherwise.
The meter from Radio Shack will work fine. The problem is that while you may be under 79dBA at 50ft, there is no way in hell that your exhaust is quieter than stock. I once walked by the muffler on my stock KA S14 on a lift at idle, raised up to ear level. The ambient noise of the shop was such that I couldn't even tell the car was running at a distance of less than 1ft. That is, until I felt it blowing on my face.
bro there is no way to get out of this one, ive got so many un-proper/unsafe equipment that i just send them the check and forget about it...

The auto parts store fart tips are illegal.
Got pulled over a month or so ago for having an illegal exhaust.
But its the factory corrado slc exahust with the fart tip.
The cop wound up under the car to see if the muffler was stamped, then told me to remove the tip or I would get a ticket =/
