If the wires are getting hot it means something has some insane resistance in it... porbably the pump most likely, Best bet to check if its the pump or not is fuel pressure test, or, like a-ron said, pull the line off from the fuel filter, or before the fuel filter with the pump in the tank, turn the key on and see if any fuel sprays out. I know what you mean, walbros are pretty loud, and if its barely humming right now, its a safe bet your pump took a shit.
