Its always proper to check everything out and replace as neccesary. On my 200k motor I neeeded new valve spings and guides and stem seals and that was it.

I opted to just use a spare head with less milage and just did stem seals on that, which was alot cheaper.

If you are trying to do this on that engine you posted the pics of the spark plug, you need to remove the head, valvesprings should be your last worry.

when you say, remove the head do you mean scrap it, or remove the head and rebuild. I planed on removing the head, de-assembling it and checking everything. new head gasket is in order.

If you are wanting to rebuild the head here are the steps:

Step 1. Remove cylinder head

Step 2. Drive to national cylinder head with said head in tow.

Step 3. Drop off cylinder head

Step 4. Return with cash, pay the people, leave with cylinder head

Step 5. Install

First thing you need to do before you worry about removing any springs, is to get that thing off, there is a good chance when your engine went to shit, something got smashed into the head by the pistons, and tore up the chambers.

Disassemble it all you want, your not going to do it any good, already told you what you need to do.
