Going by the casting line on the left, and the porosity, I doubt it, i think thats why they're saying these heads are worth more $$

In a few spots I did take out a little to gasket match but it was such a small amount it was laughable. It was mostly cleanup and both heads were done in less than an hour.

I though 96TT's had different heads than the 95TT's. I dunno.

What I do know is that I looked up in the Z32 registry... There were only 850-ish 95TT's made and only 750ish 96TT's made. I know one of them is full of water.

So what's the deal with JDM import motors? Especially the 96-01 models.

96 engines are different specifically because they don't have VTC... I don't know whether the castings are 100% different as a result or anything.

That's what I always thought. But look at 11041 and 11041M on here. That's a complete head assembly (left, right). It says everything above 9/94 is a 48P00.

But then I looked at the valve train page and the sprockets and cams are different for 7/95 and up.

Maybe they did the old S13SR cam sprokets in S14SR head trick. Maybe the myth that the 96TT cams are larger to make up for the lack of VTC....

95 and 96 heads are exactly the same, the difference is like you said, in the cams and sprockets. There is a "check valve" in the back of the 95 cams that the VTC solenoid seats up against when it engages. In the back of my stock cams it's just a threaded plug with a small hole in the middle. I'm pretty sure I checked and I think the lift of the cams is the same, don't know about the duration though. As far as the sprockets those are of course different, mine are pretty much solid with no VTC crap. VTC sprockets usually give out when running my cams anyway so luckily I don't have to upgrade.

I have the JWT 500s, but I can't give you any video. I'm putting mine back together right now which is why I was able to take that pic of the head.
