GTIR valve springs ?
well thats all up to him i guess, im against ghetto rigging engine internals but oh well if ya'll want float valves or break rocker arm in half due to incorrect measurements thats up to ya'll. I'm just try to help ya'll
GTIR lifters cannot be transferred into a regular SR head
The GTIR lifters are just pivoit heads screwed into the head

Hey look, Tomei even makes parts for ghetto rigging engines. You better call em up and let them know they're doing it wrong.

full on track cars can take a lot more liberties with shit than a street car. bell bottom kits and crazy wheel fitment look cool sliding on a track, but when i want to drive to taco bus, im going to ruin all of that shit. so it just doesnt work for me. function over fashion.

Thanks for yet another useless post though.

Ghetto rigging engine internals ?
Seriously, stop and do a little bit of research before you post.
Shimming valve springs to get the CORRECT installed height is the right way to do things, its common practice after a valve job, other machine work etc. Just getting a set of bc springs and slapping them in with no measuring or shimming, like you would suggest, would actually be the "ghetto rigging" way...

Really cuz of all the SR head's ive worked on and seeing that i built my SR from the crank up
When ever I upgraded valve springs the FSM never mentioned anything about measuring Valve spring Shims for install.
Now what your probably thinking about is the Rocker arm shims and guides, which determine the clearance between the Cam shaft lobes
and the Rocker arm
Quote: Valve shim clearance Adjustment
Determine proper shim size when REPLACING valve, cylinder head, shim, rocker arm guide or valve seat.....hm nothing about springs....weird
1/4 in? 1/8 in?
Cuz as you posted those shims are for BLUE PRINTING your valve train Not filling a gap between the Spring and retainer
Cuz the thickest size the offer is .5MM! which is .019685 of an inch, i dont think Tomei expected to pile 5-6 of those shims on top of each other especially when they are 75 bucks a pop
Anyway im tired of beating a dead horse, your engine do whatever you wanna do with it, im done Peace out

Ok how much shorter are the GTIR Valve spring first off?
1/4 in? 1/8 in?

Minus all your useless crap.
No the FSM wouldnt mention it because with a stock build, and hydraulic lifters, stock lift, etc, making everything perfect isnt exactly necessary.
Installed height is listed as 38mm for the RNN14, 40mm for other sr20det, this will also change with a valve job, or different valves, and yes to properly be setup, you would need to measure this for each valve and shim accordingly.
So the difference in INSTALLED height, is 2mm, or .078"
The actual spring length is likely the same, i'll have them soon to actually get a measurement.
Comp, crower, etc sell shims in .015, .030 and .060 to be used in combination. So just a single .060 would put me within .48mm of the stock installed height, at that point an .015 would put a little bit more pressure on the seat, or just leave as is for a hair less on the seat, either way, not likely to reach coil bind with stock 10.0MM lift cams.
Another option is different spring seats, which I may end up going with, we'll see.

Shimming valve springs is also a common way to get increased seat pressure on any setup, as long as you don't reach bind height with the lobe down. Just shim up the 2mm difference and be done. By the way, Ferrea duals come with some pretty big shims to get the seat pressure up on their kits.
And just because you've never heard of it or done it, doesn't mean that it's not a valid way to do things.

Now the main trick that could get in my way is the lower spring seats for the inner springs, if the valve guide OD is too big to allow them to fit on, that and that im not sure if my buddy with the parts im after has the inner seats.
You wouldnt happen to know anyone that might know the oem part number for the rnn14 inner spring seats would you Epstein ? Havent been able to find it yet, hopefully I wont need it, but hey i've got time to waste at work, so I may as well do something useful.
I'm not sure about the inners. I've been told that the outers aren't even available any more!
