Default Will an S13SR head work on an S14 SR block?

After searching for a reasonably priced S13 SR longblock for months, and only finding other peoples projects (IE At home rebuilds, or projects that were never finished and may not even run) I finally managed to find a shortblock in OEM condition, the problem is its an S14 SR block. The guy who owned it blew a head gasket and decided to remove and disassemble the head with intentions of upgrading it, and just threw all of the shims and misc. parts into a bucket.

I have 2 S13 heads in great shape from running motors and I was hoping that it might be possible to use an S13 head on the S14 block. I know the S14 has the VTC, but I don't care about that, my car is S13 wired anyway. Does anyone know if this is doable, or if there are oil passages that are going to cause problems?

From what i've seen, yes, some say using the S13 headgasket alone will be enough to seal up the extra oil feed, though it'd be best to tap and plug that orifice.

I'm not so sure I'd want just the headgasket blocking a hole, but I don't think I could tap and plug the hole without dumping shavings into the block and causing problems down the road. Does anyone else have an opinion/answer on the subject?

If I had to, how difficult would it be to get his S14 head straightened out assuming all he did was dump the shims and rocker keepers out of it?
