Default What are your thoughts on RB swaps?

Here's the deal, I'm doing some motor shopping and wanted to break away from the norm (as I always have). Got to thinking about the little old RB the other day and the gears started turning.

It's worth stating a few things:
1. Yes, I know a KA-T, SR or whatever can make more power/same power.
2. People are going to hate.

Ideally, I'd like a RB20det for the simple sake of me not having to bash the firewall in and it would move my center of gravity more towards the center of the car. I'm not looking for high horsepower, it is response that I crave as this car will be autocrossed, road raced and road rallied. A plus is that I don't have to listen to the 4 banger drone anymore, I'd get a nifty inline 6 purr.

Any thoughts, advice, tell me I am dumb?

If I had the extra coin, I would. Care to sponsor?

It's for a good cause, hope to run this either this year or next year. It's been a goal of mine for many years. I need the turbo power for up in the mountains.

2.0 straight six ftl. cool I guess for a lil more tq. but look how much more weight itll be compard to a sr20 for around the same rwhp. Also you gotta pay for custom mounts and wiring.. really worth all the trouble when you could have a SR20 that drops right in pretty much, around the same price too? I think to be completely satified, dont cut corners on swaps to save a few bucks. plus its a older motor.. They do sound nasty though.

if your going to have this car for awhile why not save up for something youd really want?

I like the ideal of going Turbo straight six but not one that is 2.0.lol
At the end of the day its your car. do what makes you happy.

I say save up and go lsx since your into domestics too. hahaha

RB20s are just like CAs in my book. They can definately be cool, good power motors. Just realize it is an older motor that has seen more abused. Be OK with that, in fact, be THRILLED about it. Take the time and money to replace gaskets and other misc. shit right off the bat. Oh, waterpumps are notorious on those motors too, so get a new one of those on before it even gets near the engine bay. They arent as capable of very high hp numbers as its younger, bigger brothers either. They make pretty decent numbers though, I think I have seen 300-350 with out MAJOR internal work.

One a side note, fuck LSx swaps. Unless you have a good source for the motor and can do all the work your self / with the aid of friends that work for little to nothing, you can have a pretty stout SR or RB.

my two pennies

I would say rb25. I keep kicking the idea around for the convertible. However, from my research it would be around $4k if you do all the labor.
