That part makes sense but what do you do for a spring compressor? Do they have special ones for when the head is still on? Mine has to wrap around the head and push up against the face of the valve.

 

Yes they do. They're kind of a bitch to use, but Tim was telling me about doing valve stem seals on a Toyota last week with the spring compressor he used with the motor in the car.

That sucks. Also a retarded amount for the speed you were going. My 64 in a 30 up in TN only cost me 228$ and my insurance hasnt even penalized me for it (which I find odd.) Atleast you didnt get an exhaust ticket or a "to low" ticket.
